The 43rd edition of the San Sebastian Zurich Marathon will be held on November 29, 2020, in a beautiful town that everyone should visit.
Entries are open at irresistibly low registration fees if you sign up early for any of the three available distances – 10km, half-marathon and full marathon.
The route is flat, temperatures are ideal and it is very easy to reach San Sebastian via the three nearby airports in Bilbao, Biarritz and San Sebastian itself.
San Sebastian is quite a small town with 150,000 inhabitants and it is known worldwide thanks to its unique gastronomy and beauty. Located in the Basque Country in the north of Spain, on the Cantabrian Sea and just 20km from France, San Sebastian hosts one of the oldest marathons in Europe, the Zurich Donostiako Maratoia. The race welcomes about 7000 runners each year (10km, half-marathon and full marathon distances). 7000 runners who have the chance to enjoy their dream marathon.
A pollution-free town, at sea level and with ideal temperatures for running in November… San Sebastian offers all the runners the chance to enjoy a perfect weekend in a tourist town where they can visit, among others, the famous La Concha beach, rated in the last few years as the Best European Beach. The route is flat and ideal for those runners who want to get their PB or those who want to try the marathon distance for the first time.

Its charms fascinate all the visitors and so do the traditional pintxos or tapas available in the hundreds of bars to be found in the Old Town. Nobody visiting the town should miss those small delicacies. They are perfect as a restorative snack after the effort of the race.

An authentic running atmosphere
During the weekend of the marathon one can really feel a very athletic atmosphere. Back in 1977 San Sebastian hosted the indoor European Athletics Championship in Anoeta Velodrome, where the marathon sets up its Welcome Area nowadays. The town also hosted the World Marathon Cup in 1993 and current Spain’s women marathon record was achieved in San Sebastian. Special mention should also go to San Sebastian International Cross, where Zátopek gathered 40,000 spectators some decades ago. San Sebastian is definitely one of the towns with the greatest athletic tradition worldwide. Its marathon is one of the most prestigious marathons in Spain and it is also the second oldest marathon in Spain.
