British Athletics announces full 12-strong team for the event at Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs
Jenny Nesbitt and Alex Yee are among the 12 athletes named on the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the European 10,000m Cup in London on May 19.
With a maximum six women and six men selected, GB will race for team medals in both events which take place at the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs meeting at Parliament Hill, which also acts at the British Championships and trial for the Berlin 2018 European Championships.
Nesbitt leads the women’s team fresh from her Commonwealth Games debut on the Gold Coast where she received a late call up for Wales in the 10,000m.
Charlotte Arter and Faye Fullerton will run for GB again after earning IAAF World Half Marathon Championships selection in March.
They will be joined by Phoebe Law, who finished fourth in the 10,000m at the European Under-23 Championships last year, plus Louise Small and Claire Duck, who also made GB’s European 10,000m Cup team last year.
Triathlete Yee earns his first senior British Athletics vest, with the 20-year-old having paced the A race at Parliament Hill in 2017.
IAAF World Half Marathon Championships athletes Ben Connor, Luke Traynor and Mohamud Aadan join him on the men’s team along with Olympian Ross Millington and Sam Stabler.
Team Leader Chris Jones said: “The European 10,000m Cup is an important marker on the 2018 calendar and we are pleased to announce a full British team for what will be a great event.
“By selecting a full team of 12, we are showing our intent to earn the highest possible placing in both the men’s and women’s team standings.
“The team is a good mixture of those used to big events, including the European 10,000m Cup, and promising talent on the pathway to future major championships.
“We are encouraged by the performances so far this year and look forward to coming together as a British team to achieve our best in London.”
