Long jump legend heads to Great North event for his final competition
Greg Rutherford’s retirement season has so far seen him compete at Diamond League events in London and Birmingham but his last long jump of all will be at the Great North CityGames on the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside on September 8.
The Olympic, world and Commonwealth long jump champion will be part of an innovative mixed long jump competition as the Great North CityGames celebrates its 10th anniversary.
He said: “It will be my fifth and final appearance at the Great North CityGames. The Great North CityGames have always been an innovative concept and I’m excited to launch a new format of competition.”
With a range of events from 100m to one mile races, pole vault and long jump in a specially constructed multi sports arena on the banks of the Tyne and in Stockton-on-Tees, the Great North CityGames kicks off a weekend of athletics which encompasses the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great North Run, the Simplyhealth Great North 5km and finishes with the famous Simplyhealth Great North Run on Sunday.
The action is free to watch, no ticket is required and it is broadcast live on BBC1 from 1.15pm.
