Host nation names a 128-strong squad for event in Berlin, while Netherlands and France also announce line-ups
All five of Germany’s reigning champions will be defending their titles on home soil when European Championships action takes place in Berlin from August 6-12.
Shot putters Christina Schwanitz (pictured) and David Storl are joined by triple jumper Max Hess, sprint hurdler Cindy Roleder and steeplechaser Gesa Felicitas Krause on the 128-strong squad announced on Wednesday.
There is great strength in the men’s javelin selections as world champion Johannes Vetter, German champion Andreas Hofmann and Olympic champion Thomas Rohler lead the world rankings and have all been named on the team.
Germany’s full squad can be found listed here.
Meanwhile, Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain and Ukraine have also recently announced their teams for the event.
Two-time world 200m champion Dafne Schippers and multiple world medallist Sifan Hassan head the Dutch selections, with Schippers entered for the 100m, 200m and 4x100m and Hassan – who won the 1500m two years ago in Amsterdam – racing the 5000m, an event in which she claimed silver at the last edition. The team can be found listed here.
World record-holder Renaud Lavillenie is among those named on the French team – listed here – as he targets a fourth outdoor pole vault title, while the Italy team features the nation’s two reigning champions – Gianmarco Tamberi in the high jump and Libania Grenot in the 400m. The full team is listed here.
Spain’s squad includes reigning 200m champion Bruno Hortelano, who is back in action and showing fine form after missing the 2017 season due to hand injuries sustained in a car crash, plus Olympic 110m hurdles silver medallist Orlando Ortega. The Spain team is listed here.
Ukraine’s 88-strong team features world high jump silver medallist Yuliya Levchenko and European under-20 heptathlon champion Alina Shukh.
Lists of qualified men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams have also been finalised, with Great Britain possessing the fastest qualifying marks in all four relay events, based on aggregate times. The lists can be found here.
