Hurdler is to race in Scotland for the first time since the Commonwealth Games as she warms up for the World Indoor Championships

Eilidh Doyle has announced her plan to compete at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow on February 25 as she returns to race in Scotland for the first time since the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

With the event taking place just four days before the start of the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, the 400m hurdler – who won silver at the Games in 2014 – hopes to sharpen her skills over the flat 400m at the Emirates Arena.

On taking to the track on home soil, Doyle said: “Competing in Scotland is always incredible – 2014 is undeniably one of the highlights of my career, so it is amazing to have the opportunity to race in front of a packed and roaring home crowd once again.”

On her plans for 2018, she added: “The Müller Indoor Grand Prix is the best one-day athletics event in the world and is a key race for me in 2018. I can’t wait to be a part of it once again on February 25, and hopefully it will serve as great final preparation before the World Indoor Championships.”

The Grand Prix – which is the final event in the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Tour series – is returning to Scotland in February having been held in Glasgow for the first time in 2016 as the city alternates hosting the event with Birmingham up to 2020.

British Athletics’ major event director, Cherry Alexander, said: “Eilidh is held in high esteem up across the UK, with her contribution to world and Olympic medals for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the past two years cementing her status as a world-class athlete.

“For Eilidh to compete back in Scotland for the first time since 2014 will make for a special occasion; I imagine the noise that the Scottish fans make for her over the two laps will be hard to match anywhere across the world come February 25.”
