Id absolutely run Dina on 3 again. Daryl was excellent on 4 last year and I think she will be again next season.

DAS on 3 is the best bend runner in the world at the moment. Ant meters she can gain us will be so valuable. They could really challenge for the BIG G in Doha. Their confidence is there now. They have had 3 years of success. They are…[Read more]

Is there any reason why Neita doesn’t run the 200?

  • Lucyspikes, I agree with you re Khloserhfen. For me she is the key to how future finals will pan out.

Birmingham scores quite well on being a safe city according to a 2016 report? I have never had any problems. Like most city centres there a large number of youths hanging around, but I have never seen anything to worry me. London 2012 was staged in the most deprived London Borough.

I have been visiting Birmingham since 1988. Back in the 0’s…[Read more]

From Memory, 2006 wasn’t especially successful for England on the track and only marginally better in the field
    ??
I remember it followed the WIC in Moscow but was maybe a week or two weeks later? I was on the same plane from Moscow- London – Melbourne as many of the commonwealth athletes who competed in Moscow and were doing both.

Steve, I think Jess great had a great comeback, did she deserve to win SPOTY IMO no. You yourself would have selected Mo over her.

Remember, it is Sports personality so it is not just about the sporting achievement.

A few points rte Jess’s win. It was a good but not a great performance. A few of you need to look back at the 2015 thread as many…[Read more]

I have just looked at the voting stats for 2015 and 2016, have you seen how far back Mo was ? for whatever reason he clearly isn’t popular with the public. I do find that a bit odd as on social media everyone raves about how exciting his races are/were.

  • replied to the topic SPOTY 2017 in the forum Current events 1 year ago

Jess really? I love Jess but her 2015 performance didn’t really stand out.

I agree Mo should have won but the athletics vote was split between Him , Jess and Greg.

Yes , I think Murray would still have won in 2015 had the Davis cup been shown on another channel. The fact is it would have been shown as millions like to watch it. You cant get…[Read more]

Steve he beat several high ranked payers including Tsonga. Plus the final was on clay where he beat two clay court specialists.

As for his brother being a superb doubles player, Andy isn’t a double specialist. They beat teams who had double specialists. It is a best of 5 match, how many rubbers did the second ranked British singles guy win.

    So…[Read more]

no Mr ME, I also get the relevance, as do the many people I know and work with who like most sports ( including athletics). They are not just armchair fans they participate and attend events.

So who should have won in 2015? Mo? He was up against other athletes who diluted his support. There is also a lot of uneasiness over the Salazar link among…[Read more]

In which year that he won, did Murray not deserve to win? Twice an olympic gold medallist, Plus a silver from the mixed, helped us win the Davis cup ( without him we would struggle to remain in the elite group), world number 1, twice a Wimbledon winner and he won the US open.

I’m not a fan of Hamilton or F1 but many sports fans are.

    Mo…[Read more]

  • I attended on Sunday evening as I could not sell my tickets ( I managed to sell all my other tickets for other sessions). For the first time ever( and I have attended meetings since 1979) I was apathetic.

ON a GB performance front I feel KJT, Bradshaw, Pozzi , Ujah, and MHS have underperformed. Of those KJT and Bradshaw and possibly POZZI should…[Read more]

Jodie ran a relay leg in the ETC( Bergen I think) and looked good.

  • replied to the topic Relay Lineups in the forum Current events 1 year, 1 month ago

Doyle has never been able to give her best in a relay final as she has always had to run all the rounds of the hurdles and both the heat and final of the relay. Others were allowed to rest.

An inform Jodie Williams would be ideal. Id love them to run KJT but they wont.

  • Yes we have had NR’s in the 100, 200 to 400, but can anyone see any athlete currently capable of dipping below 50 sec? In fact 51 looks unlikely. Not sure why some of the 200 girls do not step up and have a proper crack at the 400.( Jodie Williams is a prime example she ran a good 400 relay leg a few years back)

  • This isn’t a recent problem with our female sprinters it has been going on since at least the 80’s. I agree it is frustrating and indeed alarming how we seem to produce junior champions and then they fade away. Surely if we are producing as many as 3 talented girls each year.

Remember Venricha James beat Sanya Richards in 2002. Then zilch.

    Jeremy

Yes 2016 and 2017 have had the biggest crowds at a national trials for gymnastics ever. This year it was sold out on the last two days. Quite an achievement as both were televised live for the first time.

  • replied to the topic Trials in the forum Current events 1 year, 2 months ago

Mo could even have entered the 800 as a speed workout. Athletes is plagued with prima donnas.

what is KJT’s excuse for not competing? Lewis, Southerton and Ennis always competed in several events.

  • replied to the topic Trials in the forum Current events 1 year, 2 months ago

I thought in recent years Gymnastics had sell out crowds?

As for Rowing and cycling they had a totally separate criteria for selecting athletes to compete at champs, so I am not sure they are comparable to Swimming and Athletics.

Back to Athletics, the crowd has been declining at the trials for many years. I cannot believe how many athletes…[Read more]

  • I was on holidays when this event took place. For the first time ever I didn’t even bother watching it on TV( I used to actually go to the event). If an essentially C team from the UK can finish 4th with a few mishaps, we are not the only country not taking the event seriously. Or maybe European athletics is in a greater state of decline than I…[Read more]
