    Exciting???
    In 1977 Foster 27.36.62 ; Stewart 27.43.03: Simmons 27.43.59; Bernie Ford 27.43.74
Waiting to hear the usual reasons/excuses why those athletes were faster by a margin than todays heroes.
They were not to my knowledge on special funding, ran on not so fast tracks, not such good shoes and not such sophisticated medical support.…[Read more]

Our CG Hammer Champion was a dreadful 10th in the Hammer challenge in Osaka with…. 66.55.
    His usual inconsistency.

The Jamaican meet showed, in possibly rainy conditions, some mediocre standards by both Jamaicans and visitors performances compared with the last few years. My view is that the golden days of Jamaican sprinters dominating in the sprints amongst men and women, with the exception of ET, is largely over.
Some will say that the Jamaicans had to…[Read more]

WTF are you talking about? I never referred to a past age which was of course poor at the range of 8 male field events.
I started my points by asserting that we have no decent field events performers NOW amongst the male athletes at this moment. So you tell me about the medals of bygone days in the jumps.DO stop talking about the nineties and…[Read more]

So the solution apparently is to say it doesn’t matter a tinkers cuss that we are shit in the male field events cos we have been not much cop in the past. My point is that we are in parlous male standards in the 8 field events and the fact that we were poor in all areas in other decades seems a fatuous observation and not a positive…[Read more]

goodness… one decent international class male field events performer in the country… hammer. No HJ,LJ( Greg coming to career end I reckon)TJ,PV,Shot,Javelin,Discus. Has it been more depressing ??? At least our women can put a few international class athletes into field events competition.
Makes the assertion of our being the second best T…[Read more]

  • I have been saying more or lss that for along time and met with the usual stuff on this site… calling me a out as a terrible moaning pessimist etc etc.

Glad you are beginning to realise the un-varnished truth that the powers that run the sport plus the lack of money and the bloody hard graft to get to the top means that you will see very…[Read more]

52.75 by McClaughlin is indeed amazing at the SEC Conference; I wonder what her levels of testosterone are. 19 years of age in the so called man killer event and when she finished she sat on the ground hardly breathing hard; the others were in a different event.
The standards at that meet are sometimes amazing but I am aware that drug checks on…[Read more]

  • Well said on your last sentence about the PAMPERED ONES. Mostly over hyped strongly in the search for special ones. Not just athletics, by the way; look at all the hyped up soccer nobodies ,
earning fortunes and ending up being has beens , having achieved done sweet b….r all.
Only a few weeks to find that happens again in Russia.!

  • Carter may I salute your pertinent observations in your 4th para about young Brit athletes becoming funded, minor celebrities for no good reason; I have passionately believed this now for years but sadly it will continue.

  • Agree very much. Rationale is that they aren’t good enough or fast enough, imo, and in some cases perhaps not consistently healthy enough. Sorry, Steve, they will not cut the mustard for me.
A life time following track here indicates that after some outstanding world class athlete appears in one particular event there is no replication in that…[Read more]

Having jut watched Prescods last 40m it was very fast; got to learn how to run the first 50 metres when he was behind Su by a mile; poor guy did not see Reece on the outside.

I always worry for athletes when the hype starts . I recall clearly after Dasaolu ran a sub 10 in the UK Champs and later got into the final of the WC there was plenteous comments about what he could achieve; that’s well over now.
The performance in China by Prescod was undoubtedly a fine start to the season, but I agree lets wait and see what…[Read more]
