Apart from the obvious Kelly Sotherton can we think of any other multi eventers who where let down so dramatically by 1 event.

Eunice Barber also had a dreadful SP. She won in ’99 she only threw 12.37, ’00 11.27 when she DNF, she NM In ’01, 12.97 in ’03 for Silver and improved to respectablish 13.20 for another Silver in ’05.

    She lost a very…[Read more]

I was using Eunice Barber as my yardstick

I see no physical reason that KJT couldn’t compete in HEP and possibly medal in an individual event.

There is a long history of multi eventers competing on other events. JJK is the most successful but Mary Rand got LJ Gold and Pentathlon Silver, Heidi Rosendahl did the same.

At at different level but a very high standard at ’90 CWG Jane Flemming won HEP/LJ Gold 6695/6.78 (and 4th in 100h)

Eunice Barber won Hep/LJ Silver and gold in 2003 and…[Read more]

The thing is, even if she performed up to her PB in throws. 13+ and 42m she’d be VERY competitive in overall HEP

    If you add on additional

    11.68- 640 – 13.14 737 +97

    36.36 – 598 42.01 706 – 108

6523 +205 6728 and Bronze medal in Rio

I would also suggest that her failure in SP has a detrimental effect on LJ and subsequently JT and 800m…[Read more]

I’ve never seen petulant at all, quite the opposite. i think she’s too hard on herself when things don’t go to plan.

In the Hep you have to be able to put a disappointment behind you and not dwell on it. Something that she’s struggled with.

Like Kelly Sotherton in the JT the SP has become a mental issue for KJT. She needs a totally new…[Read more]

    Something had to give.

I know it will have been a tough decision for her but i believe that a few very simple changes will see her as a 7000 point heptathlete.

I wish her all the best

There are many reasons African athletes are dominant but one of them is certainly that European athletes have by and large given up

  • Yes it is, it was even spelt incorrectly in the question

    Ohuruogu

  • But they could very well select hr hoping for 2015 form when she ran 50.16 which would leave her over a second faster than anyone else in UK.

While it was a great race and a great improvement i don’t think we’ve got to the stage where we have to start being suspicious when someone runs 32 mins for 10k !!

I think we all have to give up on expecting any kind of championship runs from Gemma Steel, as lottery funding has. She apparently wants to run Half Marathon at Europeans !! which is a very strange event to prioritise in Olympic year but each to their own

  • The team was

    Asha
    Ashleigh
    Daryl
    Desiree

the baton was dropped between Ash and Daryl who i’m sure haven’t had a lot of practice together.

At the Geoff Capes Classic, shot putter Sophie Mckinna (18.41) and Rachel Wallander (18.00) threw further than PB’s, but because of a possible downhill landing area,…

It was my understanding that all athletes had to compete in the trials in the event they wanted to be selected for.

Or doesn’t that apply to everyone ?
