Great race by Mo, he definitely did better by going with the pace and had a great day. I really think its pointless speculating on a Tokyo medal for him, I guess he has a shot but Championship marathons are very unpredictable and very very competitive. To put Mo’s time in perspective 17 men have run faster than he did today this year already. If…[Read more]

I don’t think Callum Hawkins will have any problems bouncing back. He will be more fired up than ever and once his body has recovered from this marathon he will be ready to run again in autumn.

Similar questions were raised about Paula in 2004 and she went on to win New York within weeks, and London and the world champs the following season.

  • I would be more worried if KJT was hitting PBs here. She is doing what she needs to do in order to win against a weak field after having had a good indoor season. This is a bonus championships for her and she has admitted she is tired. She is very likely to become commonwealth champion later this morning, which is a good thing!

  • I think most female athletes like Semenya and sympathize with her situation. However it doesn’t change the fact that whatever their personal talents and efforts, they can’t win against those levels of testosterone.

  • Laura has really shown she is in the same league as these athletes, looking superb in the closing laps, and this is a year where she isn’t even focusing 100% on athletics.

I wouldn’t give any funding to relay runners. Just fund sprinters who deserve it for the individual events.

Its not fair, as long/middle distance runners and field athletes don’t have team medals in their events, which would enable them to get funding through the back door.

I expect even more sprinters than usual to be funded on “relay potential” at the expense of middle distance and long distance runners.

I actually doubt we’ll ever see Mo in a champs marathon. But we shall see. London will be a good indication of how serious he is at contending with the best marathoners in the world.

Mrme. I think Mo’s previous experience with the marathon will have taught him that it’s to be respected, so I think he’ll give it a proper crack.

We will see but now his legacy is assured I doubt he will feel he’s adding to it by finishing down the field in big city marathons.

    I don’t quite buy that he can’t / won’t win big city events. Wit…

I feel quite sorry for Froome. When Wiggins won the TDF he was awarded with the most competitive SPOTY title ever. Froome doesn’t get anywhere near that recognition.

I don’t think Farah will win the London Marathon. He will want to spend more time with his family now, so I doubt he will show the same level of commitment to training as he did for the track.

He’ll break the national record, run London, New York, Chicago, Berlin. But he will get tired pretty quickly of not winning and retire around the time of…[Read more]

Some of the doubts about the Davis Cup are fair comment in my opinion. But there are a number of factors which have to be chucked into the equation.

I see Wimbledon as the pinnacle for UK Tennis players. I think that is the one Andy Murray dreamed about winning since he was a child. Not the David cup.

The 2015 Davis cup win didn’t define him as…[Read more]

Am I the only one here not getting the relevance of the Davis cup?

In terms of sporting achievements I wouldn’t rank it anywhere near a Tour de France win, a Wimbledon win, winning gold in an olympic track event, winning the world cup etc.

Don’t think 2015 was a defining moment for Murray at all compared to his other two SPOTY wins.

In which year that he won, did Murray not deserve to win?

2015, contributing to the Davis cup, was not the defining sporting moment of that year. Would have a good year for Mo’s achievements to be recognized.

At the end of the day Laura has won 2 European titles this year.

She could have skipped indoors and still come away medal-less at the worlds. Then she would have ended the season with nothing to show for it. It’s all part of her progression and I doubt a similar strategy will be used in future.

She is skipping the commonwealths next year, so I…[Read more]

Headline on BBC main website “Farah wins final track race” despite the quality of that field.

I will not miss the over-hype one bit.

Although a low caliber field that was great racing by Wightman. Thats two wins at diamond league events this season.

The BBC and British athletics seem keen to get Tom Bosworth into the spotlight. Shame they don’t just put on a walking race, like the one at the anniversary games.

  • replied to the topic 2017 outdoors in the forum Current events 1 year, 1 month ago

And a final, final, final, chance for the BBC to say goodbye to Mo.

    Oh great.

    More montages.

I imagine he’ll be back for the great north run, where the montages will get another spin, oh yes and SPOTY, oh and the London Marathon next year………..
