Aleksandr Menkov forms part of team of 71 athletes as he defends his long jump title in Beijing

Russia has announced a team of 71 athletes for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing from August 22-30.

Aleksandr Menkov, who won long jump gold in Moscow two years ago, is the only athlete out of the nation’s six individual reigning champions who will be defending his title.

Joining Menkov in China will be the likes of two-time European 100m hurdles champion and world bronze medallist Sergey Shubenkov, Olympic high jump champions Anna Chicherova and Ivan Ukhov and Natalya Antyukh, who won 400m hurdles gold at the London Olympics.

Just a single athlete – Aleksandr Yargunkin – is set to contest a race walk event.
