A look at some of the latest athletics news and results, including a win for Raphael Holzdeppe at the Perche Elite Tour and a 6.52 60m world lead by Reza Ghasemi at the Iranian Indoor Championships

Holzdeppe clears 5.84m indoor best

The third leg of French Perche Elite Tour series ended with a 5.84m win for 2013 world champion Raphael Holzdeppe. It was an indoor PB and he went on to attempt 5.91m.

World indoor champion Konstadinos Filippidis and Kevin Menaldo both cleared 5.77m for second and third respectively, while Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie, who opened with a first attempt clearance at 5.70m and then missed 5.84m three times, finished fourth. World champion Shawn Barber also cleared 5.70m on his first attempt but then missed 5.77m.

Beijing bronze medalist Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou won with a clearance of 4.71m on her second attempt before trying a Greek record height of 4.82m. In second was Swiss record-holder Nicole Büchler with 4.48m.

Ghasemi 6.52 world lead

Reza Ghasemi clocked a world-leading 60m national record of 6.52 at the Iranian Indoor Championships which also served as the trials for the Asian Indoors. Ghasemi missed the Asian indoor record only by just 0.01, with Femi Ogunode having run 6.51 in 2014. In second, Mohammad Cheshmehzar improved to 6.62.

There was also a national record in the women’s 60m as Farzaneh Fasihi clocked 7.35.

Mitchell-Blake improves to 20.57

British sprinter Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake improved again during the second day of the Conference Clash meet to a world-leading 20.57 in the 200m. Behind him, Christian Coleman clocked 20.70. Ricky Morgan clocked 46.68 in the 400m, Kenyan Collins Kibet 1:48.90 in the 800m and Jordan Moore 7.69 in the hurdles.

In the women’s 60m, Morolake Akinosun ran 7.26 and in the 200m there was also a world lead of 22.88 by Felicia Brown.

Collins 6.53 in Jamaica

Before travelling to Europe to compete in Dusseldorf, Kim Collins confirmed his shape with 6.53 (+2.0) over 60m outdoors at the Central Hurdles and Relays. Second was Oshane Bailey with 6.65.

In the women’s competition Jamaican Gayon Evans clocked 7.19 (+1.1) over Audra Segree’s 7.23.

Kendra Harrison 7.83 60m hurdles

World medalist Trayvon Bromell won the 60m at the Rod McCravy Invitational in 6.54 to equal his PB set at the same meet last year.

The best result of the meet came from Kendra Harrison in the women’s 60m hurdles. Her 7.83 is the fastest of the year so far and also a PB after she clocked 7.86 in the heats.

European under-23 shot put champion Filip Mihaljevic from Croatia improved to 20.69m. His previous best from last spring was 20.16m.

On the oversized track, Britain’s George Caddick clocked 46.54 in the 400m while in the relays, Florida ran 3:05.57 over Baylor’s 3:05.90 and in the women’s event Florida clocked 3:30.51.

Ortega 60m PB

World class hurdler Orlando Ortega won the flat 60m in a 6.71 PB, having also clocked 6.72 in the heats.
