It is the turn of the North and Midland area road relay events this weekend

After Shaftesbury Barnet’s men and Highgate Harriers’ women won the senior titles at the South of England 12- and 6-stage road relays in Gravesend last month, this weekend sees the North of England and Midland Counties events taking place.

Silksworth in Sunderland stages the North of England road relays, while Sutton Park hosts the Brooks-sponsored Midland Counties races, with both on Saturday April 2.

In Sunderland, Leeds City will attempt a hat-trick of Northern 12-stage wins. This weekend they have a strong squad including GB international James Wilkinson.

Their closest challenge may come from Northern cross country champions Salford, third last year, and Morpeth, runners up in 2015.

Leeds women have a strong squad entered led by Northern cross-country champion Claire Duck (pictured). In the absence of Stockport Harriers, the closest challenge to the Yorkshire outfit may emerge in the form of the Lincoln Wellington squad.

Notts AC are defending 12-stage champions in the Midlands, while Bristol & West took last year’s Midlands 6-stage crown from Charnwood and are expected to feature strongly this weekend.

The events are a prelude to the national 12- and 6-stage championships at Sutton Park on April 16.
