A look ahead to the fourth Diamond League meeting in this year’s series
A quality men’s javelin competition is among the contests at the Golden Gala meeting on Thursday (June 8) as the IAAF Diamond League series moves on to Rome.
Olympic champion Thomas Röhler threw 93.90m in Doha to move to second on the world all-time list and he is back in action in Italy. He’ll go up against fellow Germans Johannes Vetter and Andreas Hofmann, plus London 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott.
World gold medallists Julius Yego, Vitezslav Vesely and Tero Pitkamaki are also all set to compete.
Genzebe Dibaba again targets a world record as she lines up in the 5000m, with Eilish McColgan and Steph Twell among the British athletes racing at the meeting. The IAAF has advised that the pace for the race is due to be 68 seconds per lap, so 14:10 pace. The world record, held by older Dibaba sister Tirunesh, is 14:11.15.
Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto, Jairus Birech and Ezekiel Kemboi are all entered for the 3000m steeplechase, while world indoor champion Sifan Hassan goes in the 1500m.
Andre De Grasse contests the 200m, Dafne Schippers and Desiree Henry the 100m and Omar McLeod the 110m hurdles, where he lines up as part of a field also including Britain’s Andrew Pozzi and world record-holder Aries Merritt.

Morgan Lake forms part of a high jump field also featuring Olympic champion Ruth Beitia and world champion Maria Lasitskene, competing as a neutral athlete.
