LIVE STREAM: Wendy Sly is among the thousands heading to the Cypriot city for the six-race programme this weekend

The OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO returns for its 13th edition this weekend, with 15,000 runners set to get involved with the six-race programme and four parallel events.

Olympic 3000m silver medallist Wendy Sly is among the 3000 international runners heading to the Cypriot city, as she runs the half-marathon ahead of making her marathon debut in London next month.

“The Limassol Half Marathon provides the perfect opportunity to run a half-marathon in a beautiful setting, with warm weather and a friendly atmosphere, as preparation at an ideal time ahead of the big event,” said Sly, who oversees the production of AW in her role as managing director of Great Run Publishing.

Ahead of her four-hour goal for London, Sly hopes to complete the Limassol Half Marathon in around 1:45 and will welcome the support of the event’s team of pacers.

The race pacing team, led by British pacer Paul Addicott, will cover 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45 and 5:00 target times in the marathon, plus 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15 and 2:30 in the half-marathon.

British endurance runner Susie Chan will be commentating at the event and encouraging runners as they set off on their various races along the coastal routes and return to cross the finish line next to the sea, with views over the sparkling Mediterranean.

A live stream of the start and finish line for Sunday’s races will be shown via YouTube.

The event weekend kicks off at 9am on Saturday March 23 with the PrimeTel 5K Corporate Race before the Andrey and Julia Dashin’s Foundation Youth Race takes place at 11am, giving youngsters aged 6-16 the chance to run.

For the third year running, the Saturday schedule includes the Petrolina Energy Day, taking place from 9am-12pm at the Sponsors’ Village near the start and finish line at Molos. It includes live acts and entertainment, fitness classes, nutrition and wellness advice and a dedicated Kids’ Zone. The Mitsides Pasta Party then takes place at 5pm.

First up on Sunday March 24 is the AIMS-accredited OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO, setting off at 7.30am. This is followed by the sold-out Limassol Half Marathon at 7.40am, the Petrolina 10K Energy Race at 8am and the 5K City Race at 8.10am.

The After Party by Guaba Beach Bar features a line-up of headline artists, live music, DJs and entertainment.
