Thomas Röhler, Holly Bradshaw, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Eilish McColgan are among athletes competing as IAAF series begins
IAAF Diamond League action returns in Doha on Friday (May 4), with Thomas Röhler back in the city where he threw a 93.90m Diamond League javelin record last year and high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim hoping to impress in front of home fans.
There are a number of exciting clashes in store, as two-time Olympic and three-time world champion Christian Taylor takes on Pedro Pablo Pichardo in the triple jump. The duo provided the greatest triple jump competition in history in the same stadium in 2015 as they both surpassed 18 metres, Pichardo leaping 18.06m to beat Taylor by 2cm.
The women’s pole vault sees Olympic and world champion Katerina Stefanidi take on world indoor gold medallist Sandi Morris and the Commonwealth champion Alysha Newman.
British record-holder Holly Bradshaw also competes and is joined by fellow Britons Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Eilish McColgan in Qatar.
Mitchell-Blake goes up against world champion Ramil Guliyev and Andre De Grasse in the 200m, while McColgan forms part of the 3000m field alongside Hellen Obiri and Jenny Simpson.
Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson and world 200m gold medallist Dafne Schippers go head-to-head over 100m.
Caster Semenya takes on Gudaf Tsegay and Winny Chebet in the 1500m, while the women’s 100m hurdles sees world record-holder and world indoor champion Kendra Harrison against Olympic champion Brianna McNeal (nee Rollins), plus Christina Manning, Dawn Harper-Nelson and Jasmin Stowers.
Röhler’s competition in the javelin includes all three medallists from London 2017 – world champion Johannes Vetter, Jakub Vadlejch and Petr Frydrych. Barshim will battle with world bronze medallist Majd Eddin Ghazal and world indoor bronze medallist Mateusz Przybylko in the high jump.
Entry lists can be found here. The action will be covered live on British Eurosport for fans in the UK.
