Andy Vernon, Gemma Steel and Jess Judd among those set to compete as the British Athletics Cross Challenge moves on to Milton Keynes
Andy Vernon and Gemma Steel are among the entries for the British Athletics Cross Challenge meeting in Milton Keynes on Saturday (November 11).
The second of five meetings in the 2017-18 winter series is held at Teardrop Lakes and gives athletes a further chance to earn Cross Challenge prizes at the end of the winter if they build up enough points.
Vernon’s potential rivals include Sam Stabler, who won last weekend’s Leeds Abbey Dash 10km and in Cardiff at the first meet of the Cross Challenge series, plus some of the fastest runners from the national cross-country relays, such as Chris Olley, who anchored Tonbridge to men’s team gold in Mansfield, and Mahamad Mahamad of Southampton.
Steel is set to face Inter-Counties and Cardiff Cross Challenge champion Jess Judd, world cross competitor Claire Duck, rising star Harriet Knowles-Jones and the UK’s top-ranked 10,000m runner in 2017, Katrina Wootton.
In the younger age groups, the under-20 women’s race features talents like Khahisa Mhlanga and Amelia Quirk, plus under-17 runner Ella McNiven.
The meeting incorporates the Chiltern League, which will ensure a busy, lively day at the venue.
The next meet in the Cross Challenge series will be on November 25 in Liverpool and incorporates the European Cross Country Championships trials.
