Postby mountainrunner » Mon Oct 10, 2005 6:44 pm

o.k. so we are now well and truly in the thick of the relay season.

So it ight be fun to have a little competition to see who can most accurately guess the medal winning teams for the big one - the british fell relays.

I dont think salford will be able to challenge as they were greatly under strength at the northern 6 stage, and they wont be able to get all their major playors to go all the way to scotland. Trafford have the young talent that could win it in future years - but not this year. Mercia are always strong these days. Bingley has the tradition, and the scots will want to prove themselves on home turf.

1st - mercia
2nd - bingley
3rd - scottish club (carnethy ?)

Cant bet against mercia with Davies and obviously Bailey is getting back to fitness. Good luck to all who are running. No chance of salford getting a team out. Struggled last year and it was three miles from my house!!!!

Of course a scottish team will do well. Its in scotland. Dark peak did very well when it was in their backyard! They will have had a lot of chances to recce legs and will know the land that the navigation route is on. Running the land will always help the local team on the navigation leg.
Good luck to all running in it.

you know i have ran the calderdale relays before. You just trying to wind me up now. I was very sorry, and stll am, for my little outburst about not being allowed to run. I offered to give the lady a big kiss at this years event to make up for it. I shouldnt have done what I did. My team captain put a little letter in with the entry this year. If she doesnt want a kiss she will be getting one anyway when Salford win the relays!!!!!!!!!!!!

British Fell Relays should be wide open this year with Wrexham AAC unable to field their usual strong team  .

Mercia have good strength in depth, but DPFR will not give up their title without a fight.

DPFR only won as it was in their backyard. Merica are far better.

Does anyone know any results from the national cross relays in Mansfield?

And for fell runners out there, I noticed today there's an article on fell running in the latest issue of Ultra Fit. It's written by Liz Champion, who I think may have worked at AW sometime in the past.
