This is for me, one of the best races there'll be at the Championships. It's all wrapped into one minute forty something or balls-out action - (the men's race I refer to of course), and the tingling sensation I get on the back of my neck when the bell sounds is nothing to do with the Dunn & Co fire-damaged shirt I bought recently, but everything to do with the 400m we are about to see as athletes scrap for posiiton down the back straight before turning into the last 100m desperate to reach the line first ...
How I marvelled at the Russian Yuriy Borzakovskiy in Athens who exployed his usual tactics of letting the others race themselves into a frenzy while he hung back and conserved his strength for the closing metres - and it paid off.
I hope the erstwhile Eastern Bloc man uses the same methods in the coming week.
