I know its an old chesnut, but virtually every GB athlete interviewed so far has stated the importance of gaining experience in these types of championships. So wih London in mind it really is a pity that peoplle like L Clarke are not out in Barcelona.

Yes, McConnell looked tired, and faded away as third place slipped out of contention for her.

Didn't look good at all....

Yup. She tied up in the home straight but she wasn't in a qualifying position off the bend though but a poor run though.

I always find Lee shows very promising early season form but always fails to build on good performances in May/early June.

The first semi of the men's 400m has drawn Martyn Rooney, Jonathan Borlee and Leslie Djohne to fight it out for two automatic places, that should make a fascinating race there. Among the three, the Frenchman looks most likely to miss out and wait to make it as a fastest loser but anything can happen...

Grenot looked very comfortable in that race....

The former Cuban could be the one to throw a spanner in the works of the Cuban domination of this event.

There is plenty of wind across the arena which won't favour Martyn much due to his stature but I hope he gets no trouble going through that semi...

how did the seeding work to have europes 1 and 2 in the same semi!

Rooney is going to be in big troubal, i cant believe he gave up in the last 10 meters... i do worry about his attitude sometimes i know he really wants this but suck it up!

Don't think Martyn will have a problem to go through as a fastest loser with that 45.00 but that won't give him a good lane in the final. I do hope, though, it isn't that windy then because it's going to be a different story.

Well, both Rooney and Djohne came second in their heats, instead of winning them, so they really shouldn't complain about ending up in a lop-sided semi....

By the way, Jonathan Borlee talked of a back complaint in a TV interview earlier on. Didn't figure out whether he's carrying one or he felt something during the semi earlier on though...

Lane six or seven and some relatively milder wind conditions could see him turn everything round, I'm still confident he can take it.

This lane draw could ruin Rooney's chances

The Belgians don't play fair - they cloned their best quartermiler.
Surely, that's against IAAF rules....

Rooney would suffer in lane one due to his height, lane eight would be far better... But I do hope he gets two or seven.

Poor Grasu. That's her seventh minor medal (3rd in 98 and 06, 2nd in 02) and at the WCh, 3rd in 99, 07, 09 and 2nd in 01.
