What's the white man's world record for the 100m?

What's the fastest any white man has ever run the 100m? I think it's 10.07 by Borzov in 1972 but I'm not certain...has any white man ever been under ten dead?

I've seen Thompson, and he's definitely not black. Francis Obikwelu is darker, but I'd argue still not black.

You see, if you want to define white as anybody not coloured in any way, then the same logic must be applied at the other end of the scale, too. Hence, most of the world's top sprinters are coloured, i.e. not white and not black, somewhere in between.

You really are boring me now. As the "offspring" of one black parent and one white parent and parent of 4 what you call 3/4 white children then i would say visually to the outside world they are defined as black. To themselves they are mixed race (and proud of it) as its the largest growing ethnic minority in britain today.

If you want a thread regarding race i suggest you start a new one. However if you want one about athletics and facts and figures then carry on.

Well, if you'd define the terms of the question properly then we could help.

These type of topics appear very frequently, but the term 'white' or 'black' has rarely been defined satisfactorily.

i've asked this question to myself many times before. Woronin ran 10.00, but so did Armin Hary (10.0), but not electronically timed.

I also think that Obadele Thompson's wind-assisted 9.69 is the fastest time for 100m with wind or without - ever.

I don't know if it would be rounded up to 9.99 if it was 9.992. I think a similar issue came up when Justin Gatlin ran 9.766 in Doha on 12th May 2006. This was rounded to 9.76, but later changed by the IAAF to 9.77.
Therefore, I can comfirm that 9.996-9.999 would be given as 10.00.

On the subject of Patrick Johnston's time of 9.93 in early 2003: I am a little suspicious of the time, but I don't feel I understand the circumstances enough to comment any stronger of the issue. However, I wouldn't class him as 'white', but again that's just an opinion.

The rule is that rounding is always up, i.e. 9.991 would be an official time of 10.00. Similarly a hand time of 9.91 gets reported as 10.0.

However, this does not stop commentators and journalists using the phrase "rounded up" when they should use "revised" or "official". This is most often misused when the unofficial track side photo cell timer reports one time and the official time, from the photograph happens to be slightly slower.

PS Ian Mackie ran 9.996 (officially 10.00w) at the Scottish championships at Meadowbank in 1998 with his arms raised and fists clenched over the last few metres as he looked over at Dougie Walker in second who ran 10.01w (wind speed 2.9).

How would everyone rate Chrisophe Lemaitre's chances of breaking 10 seconds for the 100m? He has to have a great chance being so young.

I was really disappointed to see his DQ in the QF of the 100m in Berlin.
