Okoye is certainly cementing a good solid technique that should hold together under pressure. Hopefully, more to come.

Abdul Buhari had a good opener to the season of 61.70 but Brett Morse seems to be having problems with only 56.96 in his latest comp. Note his coach is now officially listed as Hafsteinsson.

Carl Myerscough hasn't competed much with only one very early discus comp and a couple of shot meets. He should know next week whether London will be in his plans but, if so, which event?

Regardless of questions about cages etc there are some very good early season performances from our discus and hammer throwers.

10 COUNTRIES REPRESENTED. There have been some world class throwers competing out in California - 4 of the top 12 in dagu last year were in this meet. Smith, okoye, Fazecas, Cadee and Israel have achieved A standards in this month in meets over on the west coast and three others in these meets have achieved A standards else where so that is 8 of the 13 A standards so far this year have been achieved by athletes in these meets. Obvioulsy a good place to throw and worth the trip.

Too much of a coincidence that 9.97 is his PB. I think someone's picked up "Dwain Chambers has run 9.97" and assumed it is news rather than ancient history.

Worrying times for Brett Morse? Only 56.71 in Chula Vista with his 3 other throws being between 53m and 55m. This is the second comp in a row where he has thrown this sort of distance and you have to ask whether training in Cardiff, Loughborough and Sweden is the best way to prepare for London?

I had a little look see at the ranking lists, the top 30 or so men's 100/200 and top 15-20 or so women have posted results in the US. that means 50 or so UK athletes for these two event are over there. I sincerely hope that most of these paid their own fares, as most if not nearly all are not elite and are very much sub elite. There are a couple of throwers and jumpers but 400/800 and hurdlers swell that number yet again men and women. Olympic year or not this seems excessive, if they are all being uka funded which cannot be the case, and surely there are better ways of funding the sport. Far too many people are travelling the world living the dream - on the UKA ticket and are not frankly not good enough and there are more deserving people out there at development level.

I really think we are missing a trick by ignoring our developing athletes and am hard pushed to think what is being offered to them. Some are offered coaching environments where they are placed with inexperienced and/or coaches of questionable ability/ track records. ... but that is another thread and another story! The athletes now come from all over the country as do their coaches so maybe they should be supported as well.
