I saw that earlier Bernard, well done Kimberley Slightly off topic from this thread, but Scottish Hammer throwing is doing very well at the moment which is most definately down to the Hammer Development squad coaching and regular competitions.

As well as Kimberley's U17 record, Myra Perkins is No1 U20 and there is another young U15 girl who has broken the scottish U15 record and is top in the PO10.

U15 Boys are doing very well too, hope they continue improving as juniors and on into seniors.

And not forgetting Andy Frost who is top of the senior men's rankings and now coached by Alan Bertrum. Mark Dry, now based in Loughborough is second in the rankings. Both Mark and Andy used to be coached by Chris Black but he appears not to be coaching any more - anyone know why? Alan Bertrum, of course, used to run the West London hammer school until he moved to Scotland a few years ago and a similar set-up seems to be working north of the border.

Joshua Street 100m

Katie Snowden 800m

On a side note Tom Holligan came very close to the 200m Qt with his 21.64 clocking at the Scottish Schools Champs.

My names Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake. I am currently the fastest 200m U18 athlete in the UK, but I live in Jamaica, I moved to jamaica four years ago. I've ran 5 sub 21 clockings this years. 21.83, 21.66, 21.63, 21.59, 21.54 and the 21.54 was into a negative 1.5 and I know I can fo faster I contacted the WY leader and they told me that they are not in the financial position to fund a trip 6or me to the UK so it seems like I'll be watching the WYC on tv. :(

That's a shame. :( Can you not get sponsorship?

Are you aiming for the Euro Under 20's now?

Can also add Amy-Eloise Neal in the 2000m s/c (6.42.48). She lives in USA since her parents moved out there, but is "100% British", before people complain!

Postby gman1 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:12 pm

the following can also be added

Shadine Duquemin (discus) - qualifing mark is 46m, she has 46.25

and also two athletes not based in the UK at present, but both have the qualifing marks

Nethaneel Mitichell-Blake (100 and 200) - now based in Jamaica.
Hodson Harding (400) - now based in Canada.

According to Nethaneel, who has posted quite a few times on this board, he is not going because of the expense (Harding we don't know about - but he faces competition from 2 athletes with similar times). However, the USA based Amy-Eloise Neale (a UK born Brit like Harding and Mitchell-Blake), according to her internet interview which is on another thread, appears to believe she is going to the world youths - why can UK athletics afford to send her, but not Mitchell-Blake ? They are both similar in world rankings according to the IAAF stats. Neale left Britain when she was 2 (she has no Uk registered club), mitchell-blake only 4 years ago (he was/still is a member of a UK club) - how can UK Athletics afford to send one but not the other ?

Perhaps UKA will only fund travel from the UK? Amy's parents may be able to afford flights but Nathaneel cannot.

Sorry Forgot about Shadine Duquemin :)

Just had a quick look at the World lists on the Iaaf website.

Jacob Paul and Sam Maguire appear on the 400H list and Joel Yarde on the 100h (wind assisted)

however they don't have the UKA standard.

I wonder how many young athletes will achieve qualifying standards at this weekends U20 Championships but will have missed the qualifying deadline.
I guess if they are good enough they may be chosen instead for the European Junior Champs.

It's Joe, not Joel! He's had a rough season with injuries and finding races to get the times, which is a shame. As for Jacob and Sam - the standard is ridiculous! Four kids in the world have it right now and only three UK boys have ever run that fast! Jacob may well go on to take Davenport's national record this year - he's looking good after a rough winter

The team's been announced and I notice that Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake has been selected! Well done!

Clovis Asong is missing for the 400m despite topping the rankings. I wonder whether that's because he's going to the European Juniors or whether there's a passport problem. I'm not sure he actually has a British passport, although I think he's entitled to one.

Has he applied for one yet, or is that been processed right now?

Clovis is very raw, I can see him making the seniors 4X400m team at least in 2-3 years if he stays fit and progresses, he seems that talented. World Juniors next year may be too early for him, but he'll be a beast of a athlete by the next round.
Congrats to NMB, must have a rep or his coach said something to UKA that added him. Judd/Peel/Seddon look good enough to make a strong impression I feel.

Not sure what Clovis's situation is. I do know that 3 years ago he didn't have a passport. He moved here as a young boy, much like Mo Farah. I can't remember where he was born.

I've not actually seen him run, but I am very wary of that U17 400m AT list. It's like a who's who of unfulfilled potential. Tim Benjamin is down in 43rd and Iwan Thomas and Roger Black aren't even on it. The one saving grace is that Richardson is top, which shows that sometimes the best youngsters do make it. I hope for the best for Clovis and really hope that he manages to stay injury free.

At that age, Tim Benjamin was primarily a 200m runner while Roger Black was basically a rugby player who was an English Schools 200m finalist without any athletics training. Iwan Thomas was a BMX rider until he was about 17.

Guy Bullock is prominent on that all-time list and I think he is often forgotten when people discuss unfulfilled talent from the past. Things do seem very quiet on the Chris Clarke front at the moment.

Clovis is a BEAST, and a very raw one at that - he wears football shorts when he runs and still makes the others look amateur. I remember him as a Year 9 a few years back destroying in the English Schools' final, in what was (IIRC) his sixth ever 400m race

47.6 for 400m isn't bad for a 16 year old who doesn't even run it that often (Till this season). :D
