"We just (have to) continue to run fast," Bolt said. "In a couple of years everyone will continue to watch again and have less doubts."

It's going to be interesting to see what times Bolt can clock when he gets a full training programme in place for 2010....

KINGSTON: – Jamaica’s most decorated female sprinter, Veronica Campbell-Brown, says doctors have identified another infected toe on her left foot. Since April, Campbell-Brown who has five Olympic medals, including back-to-back 200m victories in Athens (2004) and Beijing, had only identified one infected toe on her left foot, which kept her out of training for five weeks.

Yeah, it's good to see Bolt doing his little bit to address the issue of poverty in Jamaica....
:)
Pity about VCB. She probably needs to take a break to deal with her foot problems, and hopefully she'll come back stronger next year. I can't help feeling that her time at the top may just be slipping away.

Tune, others affected by Ethiopian murder-suicide

Postby Kermit » Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:16 am

The parents and sister of one of the group's top runners, Leila Aman, who were also the mother and father in law to 2008 Boston Marathon and Houston Marathon champion Dire Tune, were shot and killed by Aman's brother in-law. The incident has forced some of the runners to stop training during a period of mourning.

I wonder if they will be available for the Commonweath Games? Not that it will affect Jamaica cleaning up on all sprints anyway.Nice to have such strength in depth.

Given that Sherri-Ann Brooks won the 100 at the last CG, that wouldn't be a major punishment, considering that quite a few Jamaican women athletes chose to miss the last CG....

If the JAAA has any sense, they would settle for a reprimand. Unfortunately, the JAAA doesn't always act sensibly.

NASSAU, Bahamas: World Championships 200m bronze medallist, Bahamian Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie, has decided only to run the half lap event at major championships.

She, however, was quick to make it clear that she will continue to run the 100m on the circuit.

^^^ A sensible move IMO. She's getting on now (cue the 'Linford won an OG in his 30's brigade...' ) and no way is she getting to the 10.6s in one race, let alone after rounds. The 200m has yet to be affected by this improvement and she's likely to be in the mix for medals if she can keep her own form, and if fresh compared to say VCB or Kerron who may well double

Sturrup thinks about retirement

Postby Kermit » Sat Oct 17, 2009 7:29 pm

Bahamas: Journalist, Brent Stubbs of the Tribune, reports that 38-year-old Bahamian, Chandra Sturrup, is thinking about leaving the sport in which she has served her country with distinction.

The highlight of this service must be her back to back sprint relay gold medals first at the World Championships in Seville, 1999 and at the Sydney Olympics the following year.

http://www.trackalerts.com/?p=4168

For me Sturrup has been a great ambassador for both the sport and her country

Which, in turn, comes to silence those maintaining over various forums that Tyson Gay was feigning being injured ouf of fear of losing at the World Champs.... Hasty assessments once again?

Yeah, if he does run, it will probably only be in the 200, or maybe the 400, if he chooses to take that on....

Here's an interesting story on SAF....

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/others ... kable.html

"These days, now in her neat apartment in a more salubrious area of town, Fraser is still up at 4.30am to slave through coach Stephen Francis's murderous training sessions before studying at college for her child care and development degree and then jetting back to the track again or weights room."

Tyson Gay: Fun Is The Missing Relay Ingredient

Postby Kermit » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:54 pm

Relaxation, in Tyson Gay's estimation, may be the crucial missing ingredient for U.S. sprint relay teams of late.

Glen Mills has stepped down as Jamaica's national coach....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8347802.stm

He will focus more on his club, Track Racers, and coaching Bolt.

I think this is a good move, because in his role as national coach, it could be argued that his position represented a conflict of interest with his role as coach of track Racers. It probably led to a worsening of relations with Stephen Francis/MVP and the JAAA, which took the form of Mills in his role as national coach.
