Kisorio claims that doctors in Kenya are leading athletes into doping in order to make money off them. The statement from the Athletics Kenya Secretary was particularly alarming: "the timing of Kisorio's confession was to portray a negative picture of Kenyan athletes. We refuse to buy that negativity". It would be strange for Kisorio to attempt to slander Kenyan athletics for his own benefit - what precisely would that benefit be?
As someone born into Kenyan athletics aristocracy (the son of Kenya's first cross country medallist, Some Muge) and the third fastest half marathon runner ever, he is hardly the kind of person you would expect to do that in the first place. Kenya's athletic administration is particularly unforgiving and doping admissions would likely impact upon his brothers, who are also active at national level.
It would be foolish to extrapolate this immediately into a national scandal, but it appears much remains unspoken about doping in Kenya.
