I think Cantwell should have appealed the OOC missed test seeing as he was still tested that day - at the national championships of all places! Sounds like too much random moaning and not enough appealing.

BBC reporting that Kenderis and Thanou have been cleared of perjury on appeal.

A few more details:

'Greek sprinters win appeal in fake accident case'

'An Athens appeals court has acquitted Greek sprinters Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou of faking a motorcycle crash after missing a doping test on the eve of the 2004 Athens Olympics.'

'A panel of three judges issued an unanimous decision Tuesday a day after a prosecutor recommended the two be acquitted on grounds of reasonable doubt.'

'The two were found guilty of perjury in May over the scandal - a major embarrassment to the host nation - and given suspended 31-month jail sentences that they immediately appealed.'

'The appeals court found the athletes' coach, Christos Tzekos, guilty of possession and storage of illegal substances and handed him a 12-month suspended prison sentence.'

The latest IAAF suspension list was released yesterday (16 May).

Additions include:
Puerto Rico's Luis Collazo (2011 Caribbean Games half marathon champion) - steroids
Former Nairobi Marathon winner Rose Chesire - methylhexeamine
Abubaker Ali Kamal (Asian steeplechase champion) - EPO
Femi Seun Ogunode (double sprint champ at Asian Games) - Clenbuterol

There is a flood of Indian athletes on the list now, most of them lower national level competitors. Anti-doping remains a challenge in such a large and poverty-ridden country.

It's pretty sad about Ogunode. He is barely out of his twenties and one would guess that such a promising young sprinter (in Qatar of all places) would not end up throwing it all away for a competitive edge. The Asian sprint scene will be wide open to another heir apparent until 2014.

Wasn't Ogunde bought by Qatar? I'd imagine there were cash bonuses for certain times which would drive anyone to performance enhancers.
