Chaunte Lowe has just started her new job as a high school Math teacher.

It appears she may now be a retired. This is devastating to be honest! She's a 6'90+ long jumper, has 2'05 in the HJ and was only down on her marks this year as she gave birth a year ago.

She must have decided family comes first HUGE loss to the sport IMO!

There's no funding in the US for elite athletes so this happens regularly. One thing us British actually do better.

I've always liked Chaunté. After she did that 6.90m long jump a couple of years ago I harboured fantasies about her doing a (unique?) double at the Olympics - mad, I know, but wouldn't that have been something?

One of my fave American athletes. I'll certainly miss her cute dancing.

Lowe is actually only 28 and has had 2 children!
She took 2007 off to have her first child, and then took last year off to have her second.

In addition, she was doing her masters degree this year, I don't know where she got the time. It's just unfortunate for fans that her pregnancy's left her with little more than a few months to get in competition shape before the olympics. In 2010, she was at her strongest, World leader in the high jump, US long jump silver......Perhaps she'll come back to the sport in 2014/2015, but what might have been if she had have committed full time to the sport.

Kudos to her for doing so well when the HJ was essentially her hobby!
