Yospenko's PB is 4 seconds slower than Jess, Skujte's seven seconds off Jess's pace. Frankly if Jess fell over she'd still have enough time to get up and win. Only an injury can stop her now.

Just to be safe though - if anyone going to the stadium sees an Irish priest dancing a jig near the track please alert security...

JE 800
= pb of 2.07.81 = 6968
do 2.05.69 gives 7000
or as Iain says she could fall over, and take a long time to get up, or pull a muscle. We hope not.

What happened to Fountain, doing well before, with her 6.05LJ and 21.60JT??

Chernova needs a PB in the 800 with Skujyte below her PB plus fir Cherniva to get the silver but the bronze is really Schwarzkopf's to lose. After great five events a bit if an underwhelming JT. With PBs she is ahead of Chernova after the 800. A NR would be amazing for Jess and the crowd ...

Either injury or pressure or a combination of both probably did for her chances.

All sorts in the Athletics Stadium this evening but the Announcer should get the whole crowd behind JE, like I think he did in Eugene for Eaton with his DEC 9039

"Ladies & Gentlemen
She needs
- 2.12.07 to = her NR of 6906
- 2.07.81 to = her PB and score 6968
- 2.05.69 to score 7000
Ladies & Gentlemen give your support
give it every meter of the way
And good luck to all the other Hep athletes too"

Fountain is injured and that sadly for her has been very frequent in her career.

She was toying with them in that 800 :)
Now, on to the hurdles - I hope.

A stylish way to end the competition with a win in the 800 ... The 7000 will have to wait for another day but who cares ?

Salute to Jess :D

Thank you Jess and KJT.
Glad Schwarzkopf reinstated after her DQ as she had the competition of her life.
So what's gonna drive Jess now : the European record?

They told her she was DSQ for breaking early, then realised they had the wrong lane and Savitskya was DSQ instead

WOW! Just WOW!!! Poor woman. She didn;t even get to do the lap of honour. Screwed by a dumb ass official. That's poor. Long Jump ref was also like something from a Carry On film. :? Still, 3 golds :P

BTW, that points total of 6955 now places Jessica Ennis at 5th in the all time list, just behind Sabine Braun and on the very cusp of 7000 points.... A 1.89/1.91 high jump and/or a 14.50+ shot putt and that would have been the case tonight.

Unbelieveable young lady and congratulations!

I found it quite endearing how Denise was struggling not to cry when asked to do commentary during the 800. She's the only pundit I would allow near the studio .
Yes the 7000 and the euro record beckons now

Let joy be unconfined. And it is. The way Jess ran that 800 was just magnificent. Brilliant to have the winner crossing the line first.

As with a lot of others of you, Jess has long since been my favourite athlete. I have said in the past she is head and shoulders above the other heptathletes. In general that may not be an accurate assessment, but she sure lived up to that billing here!! :D

She is quite sensational, and will help K J-T (by example) to join her her in some epic battles ahead.

We are so lucky to have her, and I hope she keeps going for a good few years to come.

Well done to the remarkably talented (and personable) K J-T.

I think she will do one more season to try and get 7000 then spend a couple of seasons just doing the hurdles

15-16sep dec hep Decaster Talence FRA

Perhaps the last big HEP-DEC comp of the years.

In the HEP Chernova, Ida, Schwarzkopf, Skujyte and Yosypenko for instance. Might be interesting

For entries see:

Nice one! And she's done all the events too, including a Women'0s DEC, though many pbs are back in 2000, including at the Hexham HEP event
see
www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/count ... index.html

So what is the furthest JT done in a Hep? Is it Ida's 55.87 in LDN OLY?
