There is no such record category. Presumably you mean the best performance, by time or distance rather than position, by a British athlete at the Olympics for each event. Shouldn't be that difficult to work out if anyone had the inclination to do it.

Wickipedia has medallists but for best performances, you could work out most of them if you go through event by even and if you didnt know, you could loo it up quite easy - e.g 100 to 1500m for men you could recount pretty easily and the jumps and thorws would be quite easy to recall and then you could look up the ones you are not sure of It shouldnt take that long.

Thanks - I have the inclination !

For example out best performance at the womens 100m in the Olympics appears to be 11.18 by Abi Oyepitan in Athens in 2004 - now how many people knew that !

I am making my way through these - the best british track and field performances at the Olympics - and apart from the more famous GB athletes like Christie and Coe who hold the 100,200,800 and 1500 best times there are some interesting results :
Mens 400m - Roger Black - 44.41 -1996 Atlanta
Mens 5,000 M - Tim Hutchings - 13.11.50 - 1984 LA
Mens 10,000M - Karl Keska - 27.44.09 - 2000 Sydney
Mens Marathon - Charlie Spedding - 2.09.48 1984 LA

Anyway if no-one answers this message i will assume that I am the only nerd interested !

I think your research would throw up some interesting facts; I wonder if Lyn Davies still has the best long jump ?

HI Steve, Think Chris Tomlinsons 8.25 from 2004 is still the best in the long jump.

The best sprint relay time is the winning time from Athens 2004 - 38.07.

Good work though. The correct names of the walkers are McCombie and Morton. I suspect you were getting tired!

That's interesting, thanks for posting.

I see the potential for maybe 7 of those being beaten over the next week and a bit. Probably unlikely to all come off but would be great if they did! Will be interested to check back after the Games!

Will look forward to seeing the women as well...

yes many thanks, you are right about the women's marathon , I'm not sure how I missed that. It will be interesting to see how many British Olympic records will go , the oldest being Geoff Capes's shot put and the women's 100m relay both from Moscow 1980 - 32 years ago !
I was going to include the Triathlon but I'm not sure if there have been standard distances for the three elements ?

There goes another one, Bleasedale sets a new best of 4.50 that will surely last minutes.

Kathy Cook's 200m time would have won her the bronze at 2012 and gold in the 400!
