w1500m at London 2012 Olympics

Postby paul » Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:21 am

So much to discuss on this one I don't know where to start!

...I see that Hannah England has been tweeting positively about getting back to fitness.
If she can manage it at all, she will be surfing the bleeding edge all through the rounds!
Should be a wild ride. 8)

Is anyone doubling up?
It is not quite physically impossible. But they have tried really hard to make it so.

While the 800 m women , heptathlon, and 400 m h men have the greatest depth when it comes to the top 8, 400m h women has the deep top 16 that could all qualify for the final, the 1500 has more potential medalists than semifinal places (24). It'll be great following our trio in the heats and hopefully onwards although their potential tactics give me butterflies...

I know what you mean, but if that was Lisa's game face she'd out-psych a few right there on the start line.

(It always seemed to work for Stuart Pearce.)

Great run from Lisa - bodes well. Anyone else think she was keen to win that heat, in order to make a point to a certain drug cheat?

I think after her terrible, terrible year she needed a confidence boost. Must be good to get a victory in that stadium with that crowd.

And then Laura. Fantastic. Dibaba not through! this final could be wide open. Dibaba didn't look good at all, just shows you have to peak now not three months ago.

From the BBC text feed... "Sad times by the way for Ethiopia's world indoor champion Genezebe Dibaba who limped in tenth in the third 1500m heat. She has one of the fastest times in the world this year, but will not get a chance to strut her stuff again in the Olympic Stadium. She is helped away off the track in a wheelchair, clutching her hamstring."

I don't understand - she's not British, yet she's injured! How would Jeremy explain that? 8)

I can see lisa on the podium if she gets her head and tactics right - hannah and laura will do well to get to the final - but so much better than watching baddeley.

Semi lists are out. Mixed bag - Lisa and Hannah in the same semi, but they do avoid a few big names

2 semis, so assuming its top 4 plus 4 fastest losers - they're up first, so I hope they don't dilly dally around and someone makes it a decent time

Don't they sometimes do top 5 plus 2 fastest losers?

Lisa & Hannah in same semi as Cakir, Kostetskaya & Uceny. Lisa makes me so nervous but she should qualify by right, not so sure about Hannah, thought she looked all out to qualify today.

Think Laura may also struggle with Aregawi, Simpson, Jamal, Tomashova, Obiri & Bulut to contend with.

Praying for the demise of the Turkish monstrosities and the Russian druggie

I see that was what they did for the men as it goes - in which case, both Lisa and Hannah should be OK - would still like a decent pace to give them options though. Semi 2 is loaded and they'll have every reason to push the pace (which might at least knacker out a few for the final!)

The semis are both tough because they are semi finals in the olympics. Lisa looked in great shape and should get through, from her interview she seems a little race rusty and i think that heat boosted her confidence. If she gets a real race in the semis then that will further boost her confidence for the final. Laura might be a little out of her depth but fingers crossed, i doubt think hannah quite has the fitness to medal but hopes she makes the final.

I think Lisa will certainly make the final, not sure about Laura or Hannah.
Its going to be very hard to medal . though , .....too many 'dodgies'.

Lisa and Hannah are in the first semi-final with Kostetskaya, Uceny, Rowbury, Cakir, Fernandez... First 5 to go through, plus 2 fastest losers. Can they both make it? Nail-biting times.

Edit: how did I not notice that everybody else had posted the same thing??

Lads, I swear to God, were it not for the litany of druggies in this final, Dobriskey would have a proper shot at a gold medal.

I now have to endure Cakir AND Bullut AND Tomashova AND Hilali............ DIsgusting!

They''ll probably get all the medals between them and maybe Aregawi

Dobriskey looked amazing though, imagine an injury free Dobby??

COME ON LISA.

Also, what a run from Weightman... epic and a pb.

Would it not be better to throw Klocova in too??!

Bit gutted for Hannah, but i think it was clear from her heat that she wasn't at her best.

Lisa D looks fantastic, final looks sub 4 mins and I think Lisa has a chance in what is a very open race.

Laura just scrapes through good experience for her to make the final.

Am I the only one finding this whole crammy/laura thing a bit nauseating now, fine the first time, but please do we need it after every race.

Its really sad, did I read recently that the 3rd place finisher in Beijing failed a drugs test? So Lisa should already have a Bronze medal.
