Yes. But given that she stomped on her PB, she seems to be making her own luck.

(Interesting to think that +2.6 would be fine in the HEP context, right?
What difference in time does a +5.2m/s swing make in 100mh?...)

I really hope that both Ms. Hazel and KJT perform at the top of their game with KJT getting the "A" standard that she fully warrants...

Is anyone able to translate these results (and the ones to come) into actual " points" as I will be pretty much watching this forum for the results through the day...

As a footnote...I saw Ms. Hazel compete at Lea Valley, in the indoor season, and she is even cutter in real life...

Yesterday I came across an android phone app that converts times/distances into points. It's called Athletics Assistant and is free.

Two other apps were also available, one is London 2012 and the other is the excellent European Athletics, both of them are also free.

I know there a lot of smart forum users out there... but do coaches actually look at some kind of effort/reward mathematical modelling ... to optimise training... when its about the "aggregation of the margins" as the performance director of UK cycling talks about, a little more effort in shot putt, might gain more points, than an equal amount more effort in high jump for example (ceteris paribus - I am an old economics graduate)

it seems while Ms. Hazel has improved on her shot putt, she has not had a good day in high jump...

when training for combined events I am convinced a quantitative analysis approach to points likely to be gained is worth a look...

The first heat of the 200m is up and the wind was -4.6. A bit worrying, hope it's calmer tomorrow or they do the long jump with the wind.

Hazel 24.76 in same heat -- over half-sec down on PB -- shows how hard it was.

Indeed Hazel was the closest overall to KJT across the entire field, yet was still almost a second behind her.

I wonder who is the youngster in this big international field....

It'll be gutting if she misses out by a small margin. These winds make it quite frustrating for a multi eventer who only has very limited chances to get the standard.

And some of our good friends think the hammer throwers have it tough when it comes to qualifying opportunities.

Excellent stuff so far though, here's hoping for a calmer day and some great performances tomorrow. You would think that if it was within her grasp going into the 800, she won't let the chance slip.

This should be relatively easy, no? 6.46 in the Long Jump followed by 36 in the Javelin and 2.17.0 in the 800 is enough with 29 points to spare. I have a lot of faith in KJT, I know it's hardly a unique opinion but she'll win global medals one day. Probably break Ennis's NR as well.

I'm getting the impression from reading these results that KJT's simply going to will her way to the A standard come what may. But just think of what she could've done in the hurdles and 200m if it were still conditions (let alone tailwinds).
She's coming along just nicely.

I did some rough wind calculations for her hurdles and if there was no wind her time would of 13.3 ish
However, if there was a following wind of (2.6) She would of broken the 13 second barrier!

let me ask... if it came to it and KJT needed a 2:15.XX do you think Ms. Hazel would step up and say "I'll pace you round so you will get the A" standard." like a domestique??

Those winf calculations may be, at a real stretch, applicable to a flat 100m but hurdles are different. I guess KJT is capable of running in the 13.4's at the moment in ideal conditions. A great start though and I'd put money on her getting the 'A' standard with a PB in the javelin along the way!
