A fine effort from Zelinka, 30, who finished with a Canadian record of 6,599 despite a horrible 5.98 LJ. (Her PB is only 6.19, so its a clear weak spot.)

In the US trials, 31-year-old Hyleas Fountain is going well with 3948 points (12.86 w: +0.9; 1.87m; 13.17m; 23.84 w: +1.0). She's a little down on her 2010 PB of 6735, but a strong javelin (by her standards) could help her catch up. Her last two events are always a relative weakness.

I don't suppose one of the statos fancies doing a last three outdoor champ list of results and then their pb and heptathlon pb for Ennis, Chernova and Dobrynska?

taffy
2 or3 days before the OLY HEP I plan to get myself ready on the stats front re the big 3 + 1 or 2 others that might sniff at a podium place such as Fountain, oester ... and I'll place what I have here in this topic, even though during the HEP time I guess we'll alll throw in comments on how the event progresses on the topics set up for each 1/2-day of the athletics of the Olympics.

taffy
'last three outdoor champ list of results'

In response to your request A few figures (DRAFT 1)

I've include what I think is relevant to this request; others may think otherwise and add accordingly

HEP fri3aug-sat4aug

1st CDE, the top 3

Tatiana Chernova, RUS, '88, 1.89m, 63kg, PB 6880 '11
- '09 World 8th 6288
( 13.58, 1.74, 12.43, 24.13, 6.50, 41.88, 2.09.11 )
- '10 EUR 4th 6512
( 13.73/-1.0 - 1.83 - 13.82 - 24.15/-0.3 / 6.42/-0.1 - 50.22 - 2:15.45
- '11 World 1st 6880
( 13.32/+0.9 - 1.83 - 14.17 - 23.50/-1.5 / 6.61/-0.7 - 52.95 - 2:08.04 )

pbs 13.32, 1.87, 14.54, 23.49, 6.82, 54.49, 2.06.50

A youth protege, and then not realising that potential but in the last 2 years a new coach appears to been the basis for her to now realise some of her, and still young, possible excellence.

Natalia Dobrynska, UKR, '82, 1.82m, 75kg, PB 6778 '10
- '08 OLY 1st 6773
( 13.44/+0.0 - 1.80 - 17.29 - 24.39/+0.1 / 6.63/+0.3 - 48.60 - 2:17.72 )
- '10 EUR 2nd 6778
( 13.59/-1.6 - 1.86 - 15.88 - 24.23/-0.2 / 6.56/+0.3 - 49.25 - 2:12.06 )
- '12 World in PEN 1st 5013 WR
( 8.38 - 1.84 - 16.51 - 6.57 - 2:11.15 )

pbs 13.43, 1.86, 17.29, 24.23, 6.63, 49.25, 2.11.15

When it matters to her Natalia is able to pull out pbs and a PB. She has a fire deep down in her that emerges when she is really 'fired up'!

Jessica Ennis, GBR, '86, 1.65m, 57kg, PB 6906 '12
- '09 World 1st 6731
( 12.93/-0.4 - 1.92 - 14.14 - 23.25/+0.0 / 6.29/-0.8 - 43.54 - 2:12.22 )
- '10 EUR 1st 6823
( 12.95/-1.0 - 1.89 - 14.05 - 23.21/-0.3 / 6.43/+1.1 - 46.71 - 2:10.18 )
- '11 World 2nd 6751
( 12.94/+0.4 - 1.86 - 14.67 - 23.27/-1.5 / 6.51/+0.0 - 39.95 - 2:07.81 )

pbs 12.79, 1.95, 14.79, 22.88, 6.51, 47.11, 2.07.81

Still improving, home crowd, and has hopefully got her head round avoiding 'disasters' ie 39.95m JT ('11 World) or 6.19m LJ ('12 World in). A really good HJ, where she excels, would also give a fine boost to her performance on day 1. Being British I hope she wins but ...

Top 6 possibles, in alphabetical order (are the entry lists available yet?)

- Ekaterina Bolshova, RUS, 88, ? ht, ? wt , PB 6466 '12
pbs 13.50 '12, 1.92 '12, 13.98 '12, 24.17 '12, 6.52 '12, 39.87 '09, 2.10.42 '12
A RUS athlete emerging out of the blue

- Nana Dijmou FRA, '85, 1.74m, 65kg, '12 EUR Champ 6544 PB
pbs 13.11, 1.84, 14.81, 24.36, 6.44, 55.82, 2.16.49
Showing her best season to date

- Hyleas Fountain, USA, '81, 1.70,. 65kg, '08 OLY 2nd 6619 , PB 6735 '10
pbs 12.78, 1.90, 14.26, 23.21, 6.89, 48.15, 2.15.32
Perhaps will be free of injury but getting an OLY podium spot again might be harder this time

- Jennifer Oeser, GER, '83, 1.76m, 64kg, PB 6683 '10
13.14, 1.86, 14.29, 23.95, 6.68, 51.30, 2.10.39
Very quiet this season

- Kristina Savitskaya, RUS, '91, ? ht, ? wt, PB 6681 '12
pbs 13.52 '12, 1.88 '12, 15,27 '12, 24.61 '12, 6.65 '12, 46.83 '12, 2.14.73 '12
Another RUS athlete emerging out of the blue

- Lilli Schwarzkopf, GER, '83, 1.74m, 63kg, PB 6536 '08
pbs 13.32, 1.83, 14.89, 24.72, 6.35, 55.25, 2.09.63
Very quiet this season

- Austra Skujyte, LTU, 79, 1.88m, 82kg, PB 6493 '12
pbs 13.96, 1.91, 17.86, 24.82, 6.39, 52.63, 2.15.92
Rising and rising after returning from specialising in SP

- Jessica Zelinka, CAN, '81, 1.76m, 63kg, PB 6599 '12
pbs 12.68, 1.79, 14.97, 23.45, 6.19, 44.24, 2.07.95
Back strongly after motherhood

13-point rule - 13pts relates to 1cm in the HJ. Useful I find when thinking what improvements might be possible, but are the points gained very much. Here I've used JE's pbs to illustrate the 'rule'
JE pbs - 13pts more
12.79 ---- 12.71
1.95 ---- 1.96
14.79 ---- 14.98
22.88 ---- 22.75
6.51 ---- 6.55
47.11 ---- 47.75
2.7.81 --- 2.6.96

IAAF OLY HEP Preview

There was reference to '08 OLY & Dobrynska

'08, Gotzis 6268; '08 OLY 465+ = 6733

'12, Gotzis 6311; '12 OLY 465+ = 6776 - she might need a bit more than this to win; don't bet against it happening.

Oh yes, but that word 'if' is a big word, or a short word with a long implications. After LDN we might use the word again, and I'm not just thinking of JE. If Dobrynska is able to call upon her inner fire, and if Chernova really realises her youthful potential then JE will have to be good on the day - on both days. I'm not a betting man.
