INDOOR RANKINGS, CURRENT - 'NEW' within the last week or so

New top marks have been made in the last week or so in 7 events (IN) & 6 events (OUT).

IN
M 60H the top 3 stars of Xiang (7.41), Robles (7.33) & Oliver (7.37) were led by Jarret Eaton, USA (7.49) early in the season; now it is the turn of Dexter Faulk, USA (7.40); WR 7.30 Colin Jackson, GBR '94

M TJ a new emerging star Will Clay, USA, '91, who did 17.50 outdoors last year, now up to 17.63. The outdoor surprise world champ, Christian Taylor, '90, USA, 17.96, was 2nd to Clay at 17.21

M SP not a SB but another surprise Daegu winner, David storl, GER, 90, at 21.78 outdoors last year, is rounding into form now with 21.40 (in PB)

W PV Isinbayeva is back and added 1cm to her '09 WR (IN) doing 5.01; WR (OUT) by her is 5.06, '09.

Perhaps many indoor National Records (NRs) are weak compared with the outdoor records but Istanbul perhaps sent many athletes home fairly happy. There a total of 83 NRs in the 3 day event

Three men have won the "walking double" at the Olympics.
Robert Korzeniowski at Sydney did the 20/50 double at Sydney.
Brighton's George Larner (1908) and Frigerio (ITA) in 1920 both won two golds but at much shorter distances.

In the last week or so more new world leaders: 7 men and 7 women

Men
100: 9.90 Yohan Blake JAM, '89, 1.81m, 73kg, PB 9.82 --- NEW
- Blake, the young pretender and perhaps? the 1st real theat to the dominance of Bolt, b.86, is the season's 1st and only, so far, sub-10.00 athlete. From 9.82 to Bolt's 9.58 is quite a bit!!! The big question is will Bolt approach or improve on his 9.58 this year? One would get yes & no answers. Certainly one would expect Blake to improve on his 9.82pb

400H: 48.49 Bershawn Jackson USA
HJ: 2.32 Ricky Robertson USA

PV: 5.82 Björn Otto GER, '77, PB 5.92in '12 --- NEW
- Otto's career has found a new lease of life.
OUT progression
'07 5.90 PBout
'08 5.70
'09 5.75
'10 5.41
'11 5.75
'12 5.82
IN progression
'07 5.90
'08 5.70
'09 5.60

One to watch perhaps

TJ: 17.49 Osviel Hernández CUB

SP: 21.54 Adam Nelson USA, '75, 1.83m, 115kg, PB 22.51 '02 --- NEW

Did 22.09 '11

DT: 66.28 Vikas Gowda IND, '83, 1.89m, 110kg, --- NEW
- an Indian leading the DT. Thinks are looking up!
66.28 would have placed Gowda 16th in last year's DT world list; he was 7th in '11 World Champs. His prev PB was 64.96 '07, another athlete having a special surge this year.

HT: 79.37 Pavel Kryvitski BLR
JT: 83.39 Sergey Makarov RUS

Dec: 8244 Willem Coertzen RSA, '82, 1.87m, 82kg, PB --- NEW
- his previous PB 8146 '09; 8244 would have ranked 14th in last year's world list

20W: 1:17:30 Alex Schwazer ITA

ETH has 9 in the top 13 in this year's world list so far

KEN has such depth in men/women MD/LD running but are ETH giving another challenge to their supremacy and at the top too including MAR (W)?

In the last week or so more new world leaders: 10 men and 5 women. The OLY (athletics) now only c.79 days to go (3aug-12aug), things are warming up.

Men
100: 9.82 Usain Bolt JAM
200: 19.91 Yohan Blake JAM

400: 44.19 LaShawn Merritt USA, '86 --- NEW
- Merritt, OLY '08 winner, at this stage is a heafty 0.69 ahead of the world field. he topped the '11 rankings with a mere 44.35, Wariner the '10 list with 44.13, Merritt himself the '09 list with 44.06, and in '08 Merrit again with 43.75 from Wariner's 43.82, then both well ahead of 3rd ranked Taylor at 44.38. Merritt might be hard to beat in Ldn; we note '11 World Champ James, GRN (PB 44.36, '11) hasn't yet shown his '11 form.

800: 1:43.10 David Rudisha KEN, 88 --- NEW
- this respectable time (though still 2secs behind his 1.41.01 WR of '11) done in a Diamond Meet but we note that young Job Kinyor, KEN, '90, has moved straight from 1.45 times to the 1.43 slot.

1000: 2:20.05 Benson Seurei KEN, '88 --- NEW
- down the lists for KEN athletes but he is no slouch; all his PBs set last year: 1.45.79, 2.19.18, 3.34.67, 3.57,74, 7.48.96i

1500: 3:29.63 Silas Kiplagat KEN, '89 --- NEW
- PB 3.29.27 '10, silver in Daegu last year. No one beat 3.30 last year, so will OLY year prompt a few other sub-3.30 times?

Mile: 3:52.21 Jamel Ahrass FRA

3000: 7:30.42 Augustine Choge KEN, '87 --- NEW
- PB 7.28.00i '11, and also 3.29.47 '09, 12.53.66 '05. What special peak will he reach this year and at what event??

5000: 13:11.63 Lopez Lomong USA
10000: 27:27.96 Cam Levins CAN
HM: 58:47 Atsedu Tsegay ETH
Mar: 2:04:23 Ayele Abshero ETH

3000S: 7:56.58 Paul Kipsiele Koech KEN, '81 --- NEW
-at last this event has woken up, and with a bang with 2 under 7.57. PB 7.56.37 '05. OLY bonze '04 and silver 3000 in '08, so will '12 follow his 4-year pattern of grabbing a championship something. Here, after 7 years, a tantalizing 0.21 off his PB.

110H: 13.03 Aries Merritt USA

400H: 48.00 Javier Culson PUR, 84 --- NEW
- silver in '09 & '11 world champs so will he add an OLY medal to his collection? PB 47.72 '10. Has set a 400 flat PB this year of 45.99

HJ: 2.32 R Robertson USA D Hondrokoúkis GRE
PV: 5.82 Björn Otto GER
LJ: 8.35 Greg Rutherford GBR
TJ: 17.49 Osviel Hernández CUB
SP: 21.73 Reese Hoffa USA

DT: 68.52 Robert Harting GER, '84, 2.01m, 126kg --- NEW
- this athlete knows when to peak: world champ '09, '11 (silver '07) so perhaps a good bet for gold in LDN?

HT: 81.16 Krisztián Pars HUN
JT: 86.31 Stuart Farquhar NZL

Dec: 8365 Sergey Sviridov RUS, '90 --- NEW
- 10.88/1.2 7.52/1.2 15.03 1.94 48.28 14.83/0.5 49.01 4.40 68.89 4:25.15; young, so likely to rise higher this year perhaps. 8365 in '11 would have ranked 6th, '10 8th, & '09 11th, & '08 11th.

20W: 1:17:30 Alex Schwazer ITA

50W: 3:38:08 Sergey Kirdyapkin RUS, '80 --- NEW
- after 50km he equals his PB - of 7 years ago! World champs for 50km '05 and '09, so will be keen for OLY glory.

4x1: 37.82 Racers Track Lub JAM
4x4: 3:00.15 USA red USA

Women
100: 10.81 Carmelita Jeter USA
200: 22.31 Carmelita Jeter USA
400: 49.99 Novlene Williams-Mills JAM

800: 1:56.94 Pamela Jelimo KEN, '89, PB 1.54.01 '08 --- NEW
- she is back, after 3 seasons away. LDN beckons. And gold for her? - or '09 world champs Semenya - or will '11 world champ Savinova have something to say about that!

1000: 2:39.80 Annett Horna GER, '87 --- NEW
- other PBs include 2.02.29 '11, 4.13.60 '11

1500: 4:07.00 Anna Pierce USA
Mile: 4:31.04 Hilary Stellingwerff CAN

3000: 8:46.44 Vivian Cheruiyot KEN, '83 --- NEW
- She took the 5000 / 10000 double in Daegu last year. She could be very hard to beat in LDN. PBs 3.28.66 '07, 14.20.87 '11, 30 48 98 '11. In this world leader race she scalped Meseret Defar, ETH, '83, by a mere 0.05s, one of the greats of women's MD running, and with a long career, will she be a force in LDN and may want to finish her career perhaps on a high note. PBs 8.23.72i '07, 14.12.88 '08, 29.59.20 '09.

5000: 14:43.11 Sally Kipyego KEN
10000: 31:15.97 Betsy Saina KEN
HM: 66:38 Florence Kiplagat KEN
Mar: 2:18:37 Mary Keitany KEN
3000S: 9:39.77 Bridget Franek USA
100H: 12.49 Sally Pearson AUS

400H: 54.62 Melaine Walker JAM, '83 --- NEW
- OLY champs '08, world champ '09, silver in Daegu, so is likely to be podium chasing in LDN. PB 52.42 '09, 2nd all-time list.

SP: 20.67 Valerie Adams NZL
DT: 68.89 Nadine Müller GER
HT: 78.19 Aksana Menkova BLR

JT: 66.86 Mariya Abakumova RUS, '86 --- NEW
- PB 71.99 '11; made 70.78 '08, 68.92 '09, 68.89 '10. Current world champ, silvered in '08 OLY, so is to be feared in LDN. Looking at her top 10 comps it reveals she responds to the challenge of the big comps - mostly

In the last week or so more new world leaders: 3 men and 4 women.

Men
100: 9.76 Usain Bolt JAM

400: 44.19 LaShawn Merritt USA

800: 1:41.74 David Rudisha KEN, '88, PB & WR 1.41.01 '11 --- NEW
- even DR surprised himself being so fast at this stage of the season. Some think he will be unbeatable at the OLY LDN. Very interesting that the next 3 in the current ranking list are all so young, b.'94, and African, with DR's great rival of recent years, Kaki, just behind them at this stage

2 1:43.11 NR NJR Nijel Amos BOT 15 Mar 94 1 Mannheim 9 Jun

HJ: 2.37 Ivan Ukhov RUS, '86, PB 2.40i '09, 2.37o '12 --- NEW
- Will Ivan gold out in LDN and approach his indoor PB; he was World Champ (IN) '10 , but only bronze this year at the World IN. Of his 10 best jumps the top 9 were all done IN.

3000S: 9:07.14 Milcah Chemos KEN, '86, PB, NR, AFR rec --- NEW
- In the men's StCh KEN have 8 (9 remembering that Shaheen moved from KEN to QAT - & MOR athlete Boulami was caught as a druggie) in the top 10 . And how strong are KEN's MD flat runners too.

Here in the women's StCh things are a little different. How strong the KEN & ETH MD women flat runners, so how are they doing in the StCh? They're coming, they're coming. Yes RUS have the top 3, and a total of 4 in the top 10. But now KEN have 4th & 6th spots, ETH 7th & 9th spots, with 3 of these E AFR spots set this season. In this year's top 20: KEN 5, ETH 3, TUR 2, GER 2, and interestingly RUS only 1 and only down at 14th spot.

DT: 68.89 Nadine Müller GER

JT: 69.35 Sunette Viljoen RSA, '83, PB, NR, AFR rec --- NEW
- European stars Spotakova ('08 OLY gold, PB 72.28 WR '08), Obergfoll (EUR silver '10, PB 70.20 '07), Abakumova (World Champ '11, PB 71.99 '11) may not have it all their own way in LDN OLY.
Sunette obtained bronze in Daegu's World Champs last year. Back in '03 61.59 ... '08 62.24, '09 65.43, '10 66.38, '11 68.38.

An interesting series in NY 60.48 64.51 65.34 66.60 69.35 X. Also 67.95 in Rome.

Does anybody know the height and weight of quite petit Ms Viljoen??

- Ivan has been there, top of the list for over 3 weeks, topping Pars's 82.28 of 1 day earlier on 24may, and I missed it!
Sorry Ivan, Ivan the man who, by 1cm in 2005, missed the HT WR of 86.74 (Sedyakh SU/UKR, '55, '86, the 2nd oldest mens WR). He peaked again in '08 with 84.51. He did nothing 09-11, the time when a drugs offence of 21aug08 hung over him, but his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport was upheld (jun'10). He is back with a vengeance.
World Champ '03, '05, '07 & OLY silver )('04), OLY bronze ('08) - and may complete the set in LDN ('12) and get gold; he may indeed be hard to beat.

DT: 68.89 Nadine Müller GER

HT: 78.19 Aksana Menkova BLR

You miserable old git!

Perhaps you'd like to tell us all how many separate pages you have to click on in order to access all the info listed here?

I do keep an eye on certain IAAF top lists - but I'm still immensely grateful that someone has taken the time to put a one-stop-shop list together.

So not 1025 or 1015 but in cold rainy conditions 973 ie 25-50pts lost. DEC athletes are not going to do PBs in every event (Eaton had 4 in this WR) but his 400 running has moved up a solid notch this season so even though tired at the end of the day one guesses the weather really hurt this one.

Recent new World Leaders: 9 new men leaders and 9 new women leaders

Men
100: 9.75 Yohan Blake JAM --- NEW
- a warning to Champion Bolt (who was 2nd here) that he must be at his best in LDN

200: 19.80 Yohan Blake JAM --- NEW
- another warning to Bolt (who was 2nd here again, & at his best event perhaps too), that he must be at his best in LDN

400: 44.12 LaShawn Merritt USA

800: 1:41.54 David Rudisha KEN --- NEW
- too cold in Paris for a WR but Rudisha solidifies his No.1 ranking

1000: 2:20.05 Benson Seurei KEN
1500: 3:29.63 Silas Kiplagat KEN
Mile: 3:49.22 Asbel Kiprop KEN
3000: 7:30.42 Augustine Choge KEN

5000: 12:46.81 Dejen Gebremeskel ETH, '89, 1.78m, 53kg, PB --- NEW
- he beat a strong field too, of the top ETH/KEN runners; 3rd in Daegu's 5000. Young and rising and a likely medallist

10000: 27:01.98 Wilson Kiprop KEN
HM: 58:47 Atsedu Tsegay ETH
Mar: 2:04:23 Ayele Abshero ETH
3000S: 7:54.31 Paul Kipsiele Koech KEN

110H: 12.93 Aries Merritt USA, '85, 1.88m, 75kg, PB --- NEW
- not so long ago the LDN podium slots might have been fought for by Xiang, Olivier, Robles, but that appears to be all changed, and if Xiang is still good for a medal, Merritt leads now on times with a very respectable time too. He particularly emerged in the spring with 7.43i 60H; his previous 110H PB before this season was 13.09 '07.

400H: 47.78 Javier Culson PUR, '84, 1.98m, 79kg, PB 47.72 '10 --- NEW
