Re: 2012 indoor season

Does anyone have any results from the Inter-Varsity match which happened on Wed? L'boro, Brunel, Brum, Bath, UWIC were all involved I believe.

Re: About gbathletics.com

http://www.gbrathletics.com got purchased by AW and it's not updated any longer. In fairness the all-time lists are now automated on PO10 which makes a lot more sense, but Martin Rixx was a fantastic webmaster and could find results almost instantly. I really miss that site!!!

Re: Final Fling Throws Meeting

Thanks Geoff - have just approved this so it will be live on the site http://www.openmeetings.co.uk/open-meeting-details.php?id=624. Email alerts will go out tonight, will hopefully get you a few more entrants!

Re: Final Fling Throws Meeting

If the above two meetings are open meets then why not get them listed on http://www.openmeetings.co.uk ? There are currently over 1000 people with email alerts (e.g. Hammer in the midlands ) set up, so if someone is looking for a throws meet late in the year they will certainly find out about yours.

Re: Is our sport missing opportunities

Providing information on how to find your local club would be a fantastic idea! I quick 10/20 second advert would do the trick - UKA have a club finder so you could just point point people at it.

Athletics does wind me up at times, it's the simple things that can make all the difference.

Re: Andrew Steele - BBC website article

He's obviously a very bright guy and I do feel for him. I'd like to think if I won the lottery I'd fund people like Andy Steele. You don't run sub 45 for the 400m if you're not quick, the talent is clearly there. Unfortunately due to the way lottery funding works, I expect he needed to post a time t...

Re: Kenteris and Thanou Acquitted

Two of the most dodgy sprinters you'll ever come across.

It's Darren Campbell I feel sorry for, that Sydney 200m gold should have been his.

Re: BBC Coverage

Jackson and Edwards are truly awful. Let's not forget Crammy, Brendan and Paul Dickinson who I think are all excellent.

The BBC have had a few stinkers over the years, Roger Bland and that Macintosh fellow are two examples.

Re: Lawrence Okoye New British record

Anyone know why the discus results still aren't showing on PO10? The rest of the results from Jumps/Throws Fest are on there, just not the disc??

Re: Read It In The News 2011

Totally agree with Angie - it does seem very wrong that athletes can come over and switch allegiances so easily. Whatever happened to Malachi Davies? I remember Iwan Thomas was kicking off about him taking his place in Athens in 2004.

Discus is going to be a great event in the UK this season, can't wait! Brett is clearly on form and it's great to see the British "record" finally under threat

Re: Myercough

Yeah he isn't the best when it comes to the finals, unless it's the CG - which are hardly world-standard anyway. He may be a useless lump but I wouldn't ever say it to his face - the man is a giant!

Re: Myercough

I've always said that he'd be a better discus thrower than shot putter - wonder if discus is the direction he's now going in after his shot has turned bad?

He cheated and I don't think that makes him any different from other drugs cheats who are banned from the OG

Re: Early Season Results

Richard Davenport has gone sub 50 in the 400m hurdles for the first time in Walnut CA (49.97) - I wonder if he is going to start posting the times we all thought he was capable of?

Re: Did you know...

Yeah I see your point. It's a shame for the Folksworth race as it was very well organised - perhaps it was simply an oversight by the organisers on this occasion?

Did you know...

...that unless a road race has a UKA licence, Powerof10 won't list the results on their website? This seems a little unfair and now means that if races don't have a licence the results are simply ignored. I always thought POT and AW were neutral when it came to stuff like that, unless it means cours...

Re: cricket-playing athletes

Ken Farnes, the England fast bowler from the 1930s had a long jump blue from Oxford. WG Grace also had some sort of cricket ball throwing record I remember reading somewhere, so I dare say could have been a good chucker - although I am sure JavSam will slap my virtual wrists for making that assumpti...

I've read the book, he seemed very talented but never quite made it. If he'd have gone under 4 mins I dare say he would have.

Re: MLF - Will he ever make it?

Well looks like MLF has semi-proved me wrong! Will he ever win Olympic gold - probably not, but European and Commonwealth silvers in the same season certainly isn't a bad result.

Well done MLF and I am glad you read this blog post and improved as a result

www.openmeetings.co.uk

Hi all. If any clubs out there are hosting their end of season open meetings shortly, remember it is free to get meetings listed on [www.openmeetings.co.uk]. The site gets 100s of visits daily so it's a very good way of promoting your event for free. Also, if you would like to see anything on the si...

Authur Rowe said in his book that he reckoned there were probably 5/6 guys in Doncaster in the 50s/60s who could have been better than him at shot but they didn't have the interest. Big strong guys working in iron foundries no doubt. I do wonder why Carl Myerscough doesn't concentrate on the disc, h...
