Well, it might be a good idea Pengy. But rather than have one championship for track and road and another for fell and cross country, it would probably be better to combine the lot into one overall championship - to find the best distance runner in britain across all disciplines. The same points sys...

long jumping heptathletes

Has anyone noticed how long jump seems to be the best event of most of the top heptathletes - why is this do we think?

well because i'm allowed to give my personal opinion as to which magazine I prefer. Don't get me wrong - the fellrunner could never compete with athletics weekly for the tite of the worlds No.1 athletics magazine, because it only covers one area of athletics. But that doesn't stop it from being a qu...

I would put the fellrunner and athletics weekly at equal first I think. Running fitness would probably have to come next, although I think the publisher changed about a year ago, and at that same point it rapidly went downhill. And like lankylad I really don't rate runners world at all. Although as ...

Yes I might offer to write them some articles if they so wish. There is plenty to write about at the moment - what with the last round of the english champs and the junior home international last weekend, and of course the fast approaching british relays. I would want confirmation that they were lik...

oh yeah, woops. school boy error. I momentarily forgot all about the coverage aw gave to the world masters and the mudge to mount senior challenge article. But it seems silly to cover the masters event, and then have a small article to preview the senior event, only to then totally ignore it afterwa...

I'm not sure they've had a fell running article for quite some time now. Sure, they have the results section - and thats great, no grumbles with that - if the results get sent in then aw will print them - couldn't ask for anything more on that front. But what we'd quite like is some articles in the ...

Your point being? Well actually, it doesnt bother me which has the more household names. Your the one who raised the point, and I was merely answering the question. But anyway the point is we know big track stars are famous, we know everyone wants to read avout them, and no-ones thinks they don't d...

I am not really in any position to comment on world wide participation figures of mountainrunning and track and field - nor I suspect are you pegleg. But as for Birtain - then yes participation figures are much greater in fellrunning than in track and field. Of course road running gets much more par...

At long long last, at the very end of his latest post PegLeg actually makes a half decent point. Yes I am refferring to your point about aw having a small team and that they should be more than greatful for reports sent in to them. I do believe this point was raised a few days ago when beatrix sugge...

The reason why fellrunning should be covered in athletics weekly and orienteering shouldnt is simple. Fellrunning is part of athletics, orienteering is not part of athletics. Fellrunning is just the same as other running events (track, cross coutry, road) - there is a set course, and the person who ...

Just had a look at your link to the IAAF site ecg, thats awesome 20,000 spectators around the course for the world mountain trophy - that makes me wish i'd gone out to new zealand to watch it, I bet it was brilliant. In contrast, when I was watching the world half marathon on telly, you could be for...

And as for my selective stats, well I was actually trying to paint an even, honest, and fair picture. I always compared like with like, and I used a distribution across track, road and cross country. Of course I could have just stuck to comparing fell against your beloved track and field, but I thin...

roadrunner makes some excellent points. And as for me being selective pegleg, well I don't know what else I can call your choice of feild eventers. I was not claiming that there are an equal number of household names in fellrunning and feild events - just that at this current time there are very few...
