Hardhitter I agree the coaches should have a CRB disclosure. The coaches can be insured. They may be insured but the have NO PAPER PROOF OF THEIR COMPETENCE!!!! This is not a conspiracy it is Health & Safety. Do you know what QUEST is and how hard facilities strive to meet it???? They are regul...

Re: Unlicensed Coaches

ABAC have in their possession an email signed by Adam Walker Deputy CEO of UKAthletics which states "UKA will actively work with local authority facility providers to prevent non licensed coaches from using their facilities" Many clubs are reliant on the use of non licensed coaches to provide coach...

Hardhitter I have no idea whether somebody can be trained to be a good coach in an hour. I am not a coach and I have never coached any body and I never intend to coach anybody. You maynot be a coach but you have experience from your insurance background. If someone states they have done a one hour ...

Hardhitter ABAC have arranged an insurance policy which covers coaches as defined in that policy. Some clubs have spent their own money to buy this policy. This enables them to provide coaches for some who would otherwise have no coaching at all. I congratulate the clubs and volunteer coaches who g...

Hardhitter ABAC are not involved in coach education. They have never expressed a public view on what should or should not be the content of coach education courses. ABAC support all necessary measures to keep athletics as a safe sport. So does that mean JE is not a member of ABAC, as after everythi...

I am totally committed to very high safety standards and a safe sport for the young and vulnerable. How can you say this michaelw and allow JE to say that instead of a national standard of assessment for coaches ie UKCC, you would rather have a "short course" to prove your skills. I believe the UKC...

One cannot get away from the fact that ABAC could very easily provide a short course as could any stadium or private business to provide a certificate of competence, it is not rocket science I am surprised at this comment as you have not mentioned how you would fund your course or who would approve...

My agenda is to make sure that a workable standard certificate is only given to coaches who can demonstrate competency and safety in their event, this should be available at a number of sources non uKA where these can be obtained. UKA have no worthwhile set criteria as a standard for coaches to ach...

An on line course arranged with local facility owners and the ABAC would be more than adequate, these are the people who know all about risk assesment. It doesn't matter it has to be on paper and approved. You have to live in the real world of solcitors wanting to make money!!! and I am getting a b...

Hardhitter I am just as concerned about Health and Safety issues as anybody else. I am opposed to pointless regulation that causes work for all and improves safety not at all. The sport must find a way of running a safe sport and at the same time encouraging the many volunteers on whom we depend to...

Hardhitter do you do any paid work for UKA? As I have said before and I will say again I have no association with the UKA at all. All I want to see on here is both sides spoken for. If someone claims something is great, fine lets discuss it and see how wonderful it is. I am not saying the UKA polic...

2 Wrong Hardhitter. The Sportscover policy defines the Insured under (b) Any Director, Executive Officer, Committee Member, Office-Holder, Employee of the Insured Club but only whilst acting within the scope of their duties in such capacity. Therefore Hardhitter your statement is completely untrue....

Hardhitter I have not slated the UKA insurance. It is my opinion that the ABAC policy provides a better policy for the clubs. I do not like the restriction of cover in the UKA policy to licensed coaches and officials. I believe this is dangerous. Clubs are desparate to provide coaches for the young...

And another thing Hardhitter. What are the terms of the UKA policy ? What is the premium ? What is the minimum premium and what is the maximum ? Is the premium adjusted 100/70 to the claims ? What is the maximum premium that UKA could pay ? What is the claims Experience ? What are the estimated out...

The ABAC policy gives many benefits not provided by UKA 1 It covers coaches over 18 years of age specified by an affiliated athletics club committee as being someone who has regularly coached athletes for a minimum of 2 years and is recognised by the club committee as being a competent and responsi...

Hardhitter The insured under the policy is the insured club. any committee member, any registered member of the club. Are you seriously suggesting that an insurer has a right after paying a claim to sue his own insured to recover the claim. He would need to be a real bucket shop of an insurer to ev...

I have used sports cover in the past. Whilst they were good for ski-ing they weren't for athletics. However policies can change with buying power as opposed to individual athletes purchasing on thier own. Yeah Pedro thats right, but that only works if you have a scheme policy i.e. the UKA policy. W...

Hardhitter The club and the club committee can be sued for lack of duty of care for many things. An incompetently organised race, an injured child, etc. That is why clubs take out insurance. To the best of my belief all professional indemnity insurance is on a claims made basis. This should be no p...

Hmmm 20 yrs in insurance, but gets it all wrong, he must work for UKA! who could this be? All a coach has to do is comply with the stadiums risk assesment, and be insured, ( insurance not really necccessary)and have a crb check....UKA do not come into the equation. I didn't get it wrong and I don't...

Hardhitter Dealing with the second portion of your post 1 Yes if you hold a UKA license you are indisputably qualified. 2 No this is not a minefield it is perfectly clear. If the person is over 18, has regularly coached athletes for a minimum of 2 years and is recognised by the club committee as be...

Oleg Most household insurance policies include personal liability insurance. If you have a household policy you may well find that you are insured. I do think you will find that covers you at your home premises unless specifically extended. Sporting activities are not generally covered unless you s...
