I must have gone dense or something; I can't see how this is going to raise standards at all. Every athlete is trying to maximise their performance and be as high as possible in the rankings already, in accordance to their committment to athletics.

If I was UK sprinter/thrower/jumper I wouldn't hesitate to accept a US scholarship; their college system is magnificent in developing talent. If I was a middle/long distance runner, however, I would hesitate. They burn those guys out.

After being a regular poster on US boards for three years I support Jon's efforts here. People who have been banned have always been issued multiple warnings to cease and desist yet continue to ignore the warnings. It's very tedious to log on and find posters repeatedly going on and on about the sam...

Did you guys see it in the UK? We see the meets online here now, albiet on a 4" x 4" screen. More amazing than Gatlin was Fasuba - improved his pb from 10.09 to 9.84 today, Gatlin got him in the last 10-15m...awesome race. Before the 2004 Olympic Trials I thought Gatlin was overrated   :...

Hi Mark, John Docherty here, a blast from a dim and distant past. I left the UK in 1989 for Sydney, stayed 4 years, got married and divorced but got an Aussie passport. Did 1 year in Hong Kong before moving to Malaysia. I have now been in Kuala Lumpur for 12 years so I guess it's home now. Working ...

I saw him run the last leg of the 4 x 100 at Mt Sac a few weeks ago; he looked extremely strong and in great shape. Looking forward to his races against Powell this summer.

Re: Daily Banter

I'll be at Woodford Green on Saturday throwing sticks So how did you do Sam? I am quite happy as both husband and myself set new PBs this weekend in our main events. I say main events as I filled in some gaps for some no-shows for the team and if my score for throwing a stick is ever made public I ...

I seem to recall arguements like this --- in 1976. If Fast Track made the $87m. deal they deserve every penny they made on it --- do some of you guys want the days of Harold Abrahams and Arthur Gold to return?

In the context of charisma Ovett was the man in the UK. Hated by the press, loved by the public (if you read many of the forums, Ovett vs Coe comes up all the time and Ovett is probably favored 10-1).

Was Moorcraft ever given Holmes/Coe/Ovett/Cram god-like status in your public:s eyes? WR-setter, close to a break-through barrier... ahead of his time. Nope, nowhere near the status of the others. In fact, if he wasn't in the public eye as an administrator, people would probably only remember his 5...
