Re: Youth Development League Upper Timetable

All I was advised early May that the Upper Timetable would be revised, and see adjustments per attached link : http://www.ukydl.org.uk/UKYDL%20Amended%20Timetables%20UAG.pdf Notwithstanding, as an official, even 5 hours is too much, senior league timetable of 4 hours duration would IMO be the target...

Re: England Athletics Registration fee rises 400%

Hello RightToVote specifically we oop North are not apathetic. The indefatigable Dr Phil Thomas has encouraged us in the North West to issue our proxies, even if these are pretty useless for Saturdays AGM. If our clubs didn't table fees increase or AOB at an AGM, we would be voted out nem con. So pl...

Re: 12 so far

Couldn't give a monkeys abaht 0.46s. A standard is 45.25, only Bingham and Rooney likely to threaten. Trials and CP likely to be only events where they have chance to reach this standard, no 400 at Brum Diamond League. Steele won't hit A standard sadly and Tobin past his best. No-one else has a PB b...

CRB checks

Please advise which Act of Parliament was passed for your law ! If you had a bit more contact with other sports, you would know that many other sports don't implement CRB checks ( presumably ) VBS as we do. Our sport has always relied on helpers, even prior to introduction of CRB checks. Officials f...

Graded officials

Goodness me BigGut, calm down and listen to some harsh reality. Here oop North, we commence our T+F league season this weekend with both Northern League and Young Athletes Leagues. Both leagues only prescribe that chiefs and one field official per team are graded. So if for sake of argument, I am tr...

Fangio is off his rocker

Fangio, you clearly aint got the foggiest clue about how officials operate. Apart from say the top 10% clubs, we all operate in regional and local leagues, so don't travel with athletes. So our only contact with athletes is at meetings themslves in full view of athletes, coaches, supporters and the ...

Stuart Stokes

I note that SpikesandSpokes suggests on 606 that Stuart is past it at the tender age of 32. UKA should be up before a tribunal for denying him Olympic selection last year  Presumably they will withdraw Mara and Paula for being 2 old ! Both miles older than Stuart. Fancy if they had employed th...

it would all be clearer if there was an update on the UKA website.

Indeed, when will clubs be advised ?

Why are ABAC ahead of the game ?

English Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to Frank Tickner and Hattie Dean on winning senior titles at Parliament Hill yesterday. A marvellous day in spring like conditions, tho the course tested all athletes to the limit, a great mix of sapping mud and fast country. It continues to be disappointing that neither this site no...

3 golds at World level

were won by the inimicable Daley Thompson- Olympics 1980 and 1984, and WC Helsinki 1983.

Possibl slightly unfair to older athletes as the World Champs only started in 1983.

Ian Stewart

Per UKA website : Head Coach Charles van Commenee has appointed Ian Stewart to lead UKA's endurance strategy, whilst some of the biggest names in distance running will support him with the formation of an endurance advisory group. Does his association with Fast Track represent a conflict of interest...

"Poor timing" letter in AW

My reaction after first reading was one of disbelief. Even as a track judge and occasional stand-in timekeeper, the writer demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding of the secret arts. Indeed, if you hit the stop button whenever any part of the body crosses the line, you will be recording too...

More on this debate

John Cogger, whilst you quote rugby league, I can only recall Ellery Hanley as a black coach - currently with Division 2 side but widely touted whenever a sit vac occurs with a Super League side. I struggle to recall any non-white coaches with a Super League side in the current era ( 13 years ). Jav...

Never has my flabber been so gasted

Fangio, I fully concur with Foxos comments. Your statement is quite frankly beneath contempt. To my knowledge, most UKA contracts have weekend working and outside normal working hours condtions written into them, which is part of the remuneration package. Perhaps we are already seeing the effects of...

Extract from UKA aanounceement of World Indoors team

Doesn't come much more personal than the following : The Committee was unanimous in its desire not to select Dwain. Taking him to the World Indoors deprives young, upwardly mobile committed athletes of this key development opportunity. Our World Class Performance Programme is focused on achievement ...

Kermit,

So I assume no implications about Williamson and Scott.

given the competiveness of our male sprinters, surely we need to move towards the US selection system for these events ? ie first 2 or 3 past the post and no room for sentiment.

60m Valencia selection

Ryan Scott ran 6.59 PB tonite in Athens so I reckon the second spot selection is between him and Simeon Williamson. Innocence of the Tower

When did he protest his innocence ? I am only aware that he appealed the lifetime BOA ban ahead of the Athens Olympics. Struggling to understand why the Tower has been selected ahead of Mark Edwards, who leads with 20.25 this season, which is better than Myerscough has achieved in the last 2 seasons. Sport run by middle class white men

Malcolm, wasn't this the case in the 70s and 80s when our sport had its heyday ? So what has changed ? In fact, I would suggest that many current top coaches, particularly sprints don't fit into this label. Further, grassroots is run by volunteers and I would reject your implication that minorities,...

Editors diatribe

So Jason says he has nothing personal against Dwain Chambers ? Yet then compares this weekends showdown as the good versus evil, then calles him dirty Dwain, and quite frankly incites spectators to behave out of order on Sunday. Jason - are you trying to bring our sport into disrepute ? This weekend ...

RHINO actually !!!

I'd be more than happy if the sport paid me £ 3k annually. But I do it for the love and enjoyment and the chance to put something back into the sport.
