Re: Brendan Foster BBC commentary?

Then, with 4 laps to go, without fail, he points out that the runners will be experiencing a degree of pain but 1600m is a distance they all run as part of interval training and is therefore familiar to them I've lost count of the amount of time he mentioned athletes doing 'repetitions', or said 'w...

Re: News, trivia, links...

Notice that following her marriage last weekend, Jess is now Jessica Ennis-Hill on twitter. That will take some getting used to if she's using it on the track too

Re: Marta Dominguez

Awful athlete and one of the more obvious dopers over the last decade. She was not an awful athlete or an obvious doper. Apart from being spanish distance runner and her name being associated there was nothing particularly suspicious about her performances or behaviour. I'm sorry, did you not say a...

Re: Marta Dominguez

Awful athlete and one of the more obvious dopers over the last decade. It's great these athletes are being caught out at last but her medal tally goes way back and she might end up like Tomashova, serving a ban but keeping her medals :?

Re: VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON

I didn't enjoy the coverage I have to say. Colin is nothing but a giggling buffoon these days, it's bad enough listening to him talk about events he is supposed to be an expert in, and I used to like Jonathan but since he's taken over presenting duties there is an air of smugness about him which is ...

Re: more russians banned

It's only natural for people to be suspicious of any Russian female athlete who excels, given their appalling history. These countries have no shame and their whole attitude to drug taking needs to be looked at. I doubt very much that fellow Russian athletes and media were up in arms about Lysenko o...

Re: One down.......Positive tests!

So often the bridesmaid (outdoors) and the one time she did win a title, 2002 Euro's, she robs Jade Johnson...typical!

The all time top 10 for the Women's LJ is a rogues gallery if ever there was. How far down that list do you need to go to find a clean athlete? :?

Re: Yvonne Murray

Yvonne was a super athlete. Some great memories... Chalmers sticking with her in Auckland and out kicking her down the straight, making the break at the Euro's later that year and holding on as Romanova closed fast. 1991-1993 was not good for her at the major champs. She faded drastically in Tokyo w...

Re: New Years Honours List

Yup, took the words out of my mouth. Tremendous as she was in Athens 'Dame' Kelly Holmes always sounded slightly ridiculous to me. She had the advantage of being the undisputed sports star that year though and, Pinsent aside, took all the plaudits and glory. Unfortunately that set a precedent and as...

Re: BBC to show 2013 World Athletics Championships?

I wondered about this as they showed a segment at the end of yesterday's European XC coverage when they were previewing what was to come on the BBC in 2013 and the World Champs was mentioned

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year

I can't stand Murray but you don't win the US Open and reach 4 other finals by accident. Say you don't like him or his attitude and that's fair enough but to try and belittle his achievement is unfair. I don't hear any of the detractors saying that Greg was a lucky champion because it was a weak yea...

Re: One down.......Positive tests!

The coach/husband being the fall guy to get the athlete a lighter sentence is nothing new. Ludmila Engquist came up with the same cock and bull story in the 90's and was caught taking drugs again later on.

It's outrageous to think she could be back next year

Re: Zurich diamond 2012

Gabby Logan said on Twitter that she was only filling in as the other presenters were covering the Paralympics, which I assume means Jonathan. I don't think anyone is touting Gabby as the new athletics expert, she was just the host. Had to laugh at her telling Colin off for chattering with athletes ...

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Bit unfair to suggest that Jess wouldn't be a worthy winner as she has no personality! As opposed to last years winner Cavendish? Great cyclist but can barely string 2 words together. McCoy, great jockey but hardly the life and soul, the philandering Giggs, Zara Phillips who never would have won but...

Re: w1500m at London 2012 Olympics

We were being told all week on the BBC that she was 'absolutely flying' in training and Crammy said he was out in Portugal and he'd never seen her looking better in training, how she was absolutley cruising in the semi's etc etc. We don't know how she felt when she lined up that night, she did have ...

Re: One down.......Positive tests!

The reaction from the sports minister is laughable, but to be expected from a country with such a bad history of drug taking throwers. No statement of being disappointed at the news, or talk of investigations in to their drug testing procedures, just a load of codswallop excuses, conspiracy theories...

And that news surprises absolutely no-one! Always wondered if all those losses to Adams would make Ostapchuk push her drug taking too far and get caught out. Belarus is racking up an unenviable record for cheats in the throws. Time the IAAF cracked down on these countries who regularly produce drugg...

Amazing from Mo! Who'd have thought a few years ago that people would be hailing him tonight as our greatest ever! Re: w1500m at London 2012 Olympics

Kelly showed in Athens how running at the back early doors can work but you have to work your way up (preferably on the outside) and be poised to strike by the time the big guns at the front make their move. How many races does this strategy of hanging back, letting someone get first run and then ho...
