Re: Ronaldo jumps higher than an NBA player

The changes in body position as the jumper clears the bar does in fact result in the CoG passing below the bar. The legs, head and shoulders are all below the bar as the hips clear, at this point the CoG is still below the bar.
Hope this helps.

Re: KJT and Ennis

Sounds boring. No high hurdles either. Lost the most technical track event and the most technical jump.

Re: KJT and Ennis

Bring on the decathlon for women. 2020 would be a suitable intro to the Olympics.; that is 20 years since the pole vault was introduced as an individual event. The resistance from the current heptathletes is of course huge, most of them would struggle with the very different demands of the 10 events....

Re: Holly Bleasdale leaves her coach !!

Thank you Andy for a great post that will hopefully stop ill informed speculation. Julien's group have had a great year in many respects, well done to all involved.

Re: Glasgow 2014

The standards are based on an assessed top 8 placing roughly based on previous games. They were proposed by Scottish Athletics and agreed by the Scottish CWG Council.

Re: Rate BBC's 2012 athletics coverage

The ability to see every jump and throw of the field event finals with no commentary was superb. Coverage of field event qualifying rounds was the usual rubbish. I have yet to hear an intelligent or well informed comment from anyone on the BBC concerning the pole vault other than Dean Macey and I th...

Re: Frank Dick Departs Scottish Athletics

That will please the higher management personnel at UKA, who it is alleged have been very keen to see him go. Perhaps his background and ideas took them out of their comfort zone.
It does however leave Scotland a bit rudderless only 2 years out from the Commonwealth Games.

Re: Holly Bleasdale New National Record!!

I think we are in for a great year of pole vaulting.
If I may be so pedantic as to point out that a 70cm push off a 4.60m (15ft) pole is actually a clearance of 5.10m allowing for the 20cm depth of the box.
Still a world record, so that is fine for starters. :)
