Re: The ups and downs of the Worlds and British spritning

Since 2008 Rooney has gone backwards. Yes, he's had some injuries, but this season and last he's raced regularly and generally been half a second or more off his PB. As another poster pointed out, he looks bored/disinterested half the time too. Now it could be that his injuries have taken away that ...

Re: The ups and downs of the Worlds and British spritning

sidelined - yes, Turner did get his medal through a DQ, but even 4th is a pretty impressive achievement, plus the Commonwealth & European titles too. Andy himself has spoken about how losing his funding made him even more determined to succeed. Every time I see the likes of Rooney and Malcolm sh...

Re: Day 9

Mo's current PB is 3:33.98, set in 2009, so on this year's improved form I reckon he'd be capable of maybe 3:31ish? Which would put him way ahead of our current appalling crop of specialists at that distance!

Can Lemaitre challenge Bolt?

Christopher Lemaitre is 21 years old, still has a poor start and ragged overall technique, yet he's just ran 19.8 for the 200 metres. As yet, that's very good rather than great, but the question is, in a couple more years, could he get close to Bolt? He's just taken 4 tenths of his PB and as I menti...

Re: The ups and downs of the Worlds and British spritning

A great summary of excuses. Taking aside the hurdles, where we are pretty strong at present, performances in the flat sprints are simply not good enough. 100m/200m - the standard has moved on significantly in recent years, even excluding the freak that is Bolt. In terms of PB times, whereas 20 years...

Re: The ups and downs of the Worlds and British spritning

I couldn't agree more. Both the men's and women's sprinting are as bad as they've ever been and our teams are packed full of athletes who have failed to build on their youthful promise or perenially underachievers. I don't want to place too much focus on the ethnicity argument, but it seems strange ...
