Re: BBC coverage plumbs new depths of awfulness?

I didn't bother with the BBC coverage this time and had on Eurosport for the whole of the weekend, Tim Hutchings and Chris Dennis did a great job and I didn't really notice the advert breaks.

Re: new world record

Wow 7 seconds off the previous record, I thought the 1500 record last week was something special but this is on another level.

Didn't he blame the runway for not winning in Moscow? I read a report somewhere online that the surface wasn't to his liking...

Re: David Coleman has died

DC was very much a legend in the world of sports commentary, for me he made a lot of great athletics moments just that much better. He also did a great job on QoS during his tenure.

Re: Mistakes in OFFICIAL splits

This technology has been around for a while for the walks and marathons but only in the last few years (I think 2009 was the first) its been used for track events. I doubt we'll see this kind of technology at UK events anytime soon as its a service provided by the timekeepers at major championships ...

Re: Usain Bolt to retire after 2016 Olympics

Yep no surprises about that at all, he will however leave a massive gap in the sport which I fear will be difficult to fill.

Re: Should relay runners be allowed to wear velcro gloves?

I cant remember what championships it was (maybe Sydney 2000 - would make sense if it was) but Australian men's team wore gloves in the sprint relay, Steve Cram on commentary made a bit of a deal about it when there was a close-up shot of Patrick Johnson (I think) putting one on and saying no "...

Re: zurich entrants out

By the way, was that some kind of new record for awfulness of BBC coverage? They hardly bothered to show any event startlists, just cut from rambling about "we know what MJ stands for!", or some-such drivel, to the starting gun. And then at the end of a race - can we have a result shown? ...

Re: IAAF World Champs (Day 6)

Another to improve dramatically in one season was the Cuban Daimi Pernia - 55.51 to 52.89 in 1999.

Josanne Lucas was another to improve by over 2 seconds during the 2009 season.

The performances of Muhammad are weird just like the fastest American this season, also weird. Muhammad's fastest last year was 56.18 and the year before was 56.04. Re: BBC Athletics Presenters

Is Donovan Bailey signed up to be a BBC pundit? Or have I misunderstood the blurb on the AW Current Issue homepage bit? He's working for Five Live not TV. A pity - I wonder if he and MJ get on these days after their 150m circus race from '97 which wasn't exactly a friendly affair http://m.bbc.co.uk...

Re: IAAF World Champs 2013 (Day 1)

Oh that 100 preliminary round... :x I get the format of it but still cant find a reason to like it or the semi final format (2+2 from 3hts). McColgan will do very well to survive the steeplechase heats - 19 athletes are faster overall but anything can happen on the day. To coin a Steve Cram phrase s...

Re: All star cast at London Anniversary Games

It's great to see someone jumping who you really feel could take on Soto's WR. Is 2.47m the highest that anyone has ever attempted? Obviously most people who have got up close to that have put the bar to 46 Yes 2.47 is the best height anyone has had an attempt at, his one attempt at 2.43 before pas...

Re: Mo 1500m British Record!!!

Just amazing from Farah. Has there ever been anyone before who has held British records simultaneously at 1500, 5000 and 10000? I very much doubt it. He now lays claim to being the greatest British athlete of all time. Hope he goes on for a long while, at least until Rio. Don't think so but Paula R...

Re: Mo 1500m British Record!!!

I have to admit I laughed when Colin suggested Mo could break Crammy's record - truly astonished and wholly did not expect a 3:28 run at all. I guess now he could do like-wise for the mile record.

Re: Lausanne Diamond League

I feel a bit cheated with the field events tonight - did I blink and miss recaps of the women's discus and men's shot put as well as a bit of the high jump coverage? I only knew Bonderenko had jumped 2.41 because the camera in the women's 1500 caught a glimpse of the field scoreboard showing the cle...

Re: Is Dai Greene a lucky champion?

I don't know if Dai Greene is a lucky champion or not (if I was asked for an example of a lucky champion I'd be tempted to say Voula Patoulidou) but i'm still finding hard to get around his reasons of not winning a medal at London - okay he had an undisclosed knee op in the winter but the guy PB'd e...
