Re: Relay Times: Serious Issue

Fancy being angry with the track! I thought I was grumpy. Technology evolves and tracks will get quicker over time, I really don't think there is an issue here. I also think that other countries are improving in the sprints in a massive way. I agree that USA changes were slick as well, especially th...

Re: Men's 4x400m

Heads have to roll after tonight, whether that be CVC of he's having direct involvement in selection, or others involved. Absolute disgrace. 4 x 100m was alarming to put two lads with no senior international experience (and barely out of school) passing on to each other in the Olympics infront of an...

What is happening?

Well, back down to earth with a bump! Friday was incredible and Christine's sliver was superb. A handful of other decent qualifiers, particulary 1500m/5000m girls. 100m boys did ok. The rest so far, have been seriosly under achieving. Injuries, nerves, poor tactics and a lot of athletes looking tire...

Talbot should have been selected for the 200m

Really frustrating that the young lad wasn't picked. After a slow start to the season, presumably because of studies, he is now rounding right into form. This Olympic Games is also about motivating the next generation. Not just picking the same old gang who are coming to the end of their careers. He...

British 100m and 200m sprinting

What an absolutely shocking 2012 for British sprinters. Olympic year in your home country and the times that have been run are awful. There has been some debate on here in the past and people were saying "but the world level is so good now, that it makes it harder for our sprinters". Tosh....

UKA speed and quality of website news

Now, I recognise that UKA don't serve as an avenue for news, but their sharing of current athletics news is absolutely diabolical. On Friday night there were several great performances in the diamond league inc two Brits under 1.45 in the 800m and in the same race. Any sort of update in their websit...

Re: The ups and downs of the Worlds and British spritning

Dreamland I'm afraid. Standards are shot to bits. A few decent one off performances and some early season times, but big underachievement at critical times. Both individually and in the relays. Promising athletes not developing. It's quite alarmingly obvious. Williams could be the saviour to kick th...

The ups and downs of the Worlds and British spritning

What a cracking Championships and some truly outstanding British performances. Mo, Dai, Phillips and Jessica - world class. Great outsider runs from Hannah and Andy. I posted a while back regarding British sprinting and this championships only highlights what an appalling state it's in. Someone defe...

Re: Day four

Mixed feelings about the championships so far. I think it's been one of the best ones for those periphery BG atheletes to break through and I don't think they have taken it. There are some real question marks. We knew our big stars would medal, that was a given, but the layer underneath that needed ...

Re: Poor form of British Sprinters?

The athletes and coaches are performing well. Absolute rubbish. We've come to accept average as good. The examples that you gave earlier: HAA - 10.10 in 2008 and 10.13 in 2011 CP - 10.14 in 2007 and 10.19 in 2011 MLF - 10.04 in 2002 and 10.20 in 2011 All athletes that should be shifting on and aren'...

Re: Poor form of British Sprinters?

Some decent comments. Jimbojames. If you read my original post I intimated that there could well be a problem with the athletes. I think there is the issue of finding the right set up, but also the fact there isn't enough desire and hard work in some. The ethic is not there. You are damn right we ha...

Re: Poor form of British Sprinters?

Unless I'm mistaken/ill-informed: Athletes that are recieving support from UKA/Lottery (funded athletes), lots of sponsorship deals out there, then the substantial investment in performance centres, overseas training camps, coaching, physios, etc etc. The resources for athletes are far superior nowa...

Poor form of British Sprinters?

Considering the continued investment in our sprinters in recent years, it seems a really sad state of affairs at the moment. Sure, there some bright spots, but on the whole, promising sprinters are not developing at all. Infact in a great deal of cases, they are getting worse. 100m-400m. It's not th...
