Re: What's next for Christine Ohuruogu?

I'd love to see her continue (even past London). Let's face facts - unless the entire world changes for the better, Christine will likely never make easy millions from brand sponsorship. So, financially, she'll want to keep competing for as long as possible? With her natural ability and championship...

Re: BBC Athletics Presenters

Neil Black being interviewed by Gaby. What positives can we take from the championships? "...Hannah England crying her eyes out at the end of the 1500m as she discovered just how close she was to a medal..." Would this be the same Hannah England who was beaming in her interview and said th...

Re: IAAF World Championships 2013 (Day 9)

Well, I don't think a person on the planet (even in Kenya) predicted Sum for the Women's 800m! Great race - my heart broke for Montano - to those berating her tactics, don't forget that she was capable of the win and probably would have held on but for being half a second too quick on the opening la...

Re: IAAF World Championships (Day 7)

Women's 800m - I've no reason to see why Savinova won't successfully defend her title. I'm also dubious about Cram's thoughts on Montano (he thought a recent hamstring injury would hinder her) - she seemed rock solid today, even with a 56 (!) opening lap... Savinova, Montano and Martinez to medal. O...

Re: IAAF World Championships (Day 7)

Gemili - amazing! Almost overshadows what came next... Muir - solid, a shame she was in Montano's semi - what a championships for her, all that was missing was a 1:59 clocking... Okoro - I could have cried. She could do 1:59 as a front-running time trial - even if she faded to 5th in the home straig...

Re: Women's 4x400m

Ukraine missing... can they tell a team they're through then change? Wouldn't they just have 9 squads if Jamaica's appeal is successful?

So there may be (outside) hope for Bronze? I presume that Jamaica are appealing the DQ?

Is it likely that any of today's UK squad will be swapped tomorrow? Has Onoura blown her chances?

Re: Women's 4x400m

I don't understand the logic with putting Ohuruogu on the final leg, she does like the chase yes, but I fear we'll be to far from contention to make up any credible ground. Put her on the penultimate leg where we'll be within reach of the other competitors and hopefully she can eat up the ground on...

Re: IAAF World Champs (Day 6)

I'm quietly rubbing my hands about the 1500m final tonight. The whole event has been very similar to 2011 in my eyes - no blisteringly quick times in the heats or the semis, Aregawi is the clear favourite but the minor medals are up for grabs. If Hannah runs like she did in the Daegu final she coul...

Re: Women's 4x400m

What happened ANUORA this morning? Didnt hear anything about niggle / injury it might be early morning / first round nerves , who knows ! This puts selection now a bit tricky. If not injured she needs to get back on the bike and into these relay heats. I would gamble and run Beesley in the heats, s...

Re: IAAF World Champs (Day 6)

2. Gray is teaching her how to run the race. Is this an implicit comment that nobody had taught her that properly before, or the usual stuff that athletes come out with when they join a new coach? Erm, she's nearly 29 years old - she really should have figured this out for herself a very long time ...

Re: Will TBO ever be given a break?

You do not get a degree by having a lack of organistation, forgetfulness and maybe even stupidity, these are dreadfully weak excuses, and more fitting of other athletes at the time who never missed one test, no one is that stupid to miss threee after being warned about missing two already. Your loy...

Re: IAAF World Champs (Day 6)

Judd error of judgement? Was it an error of judgement that cost Jessica a place in the next round? Look at these figures I have taken from videos of this morning’s races (these are not official times) Name / First lap time/Split Okoro /59.15/1.13 Judd /58.67/4.13 Muir /59.9/1.00 Was the first lap t...

Re: Will TBO ever be given a break?

Re: IAAF World Championships (Day 7)

I have absolutely no expectations of Muir. She's already run a fantastic race to make the semifinals, anything else is a real bonus. She looks an excellent prospect over 1500 to me, strong and also tactically astute (watch her U23s final, she ran a good race to medal) Absolutely - though it really ...

Re: IAAF World Championships (Day 7)

Maz seems to have the slightly easier semi-final tomorrow (I'd say much easier if there wasn't still a niggling tactical worry about her). She ran very well today but was working hard in the home straight (whereas Martinez looked easy and Savinova seemed to be easy!) Looking good for Top 4, though T...

Of course! I'd not realised (though the Qualifying makes it obvious).

Now I'm much happier - Maz needs to get herself through and pray for Montano's semi!

Re: IAAF World Champs (Day 6)

Women's 800m heats are... interesting! Okoro has Savinova and Martinez (a true test of her tactics? She should qualify 3rd with ease, though neither of the big guns will go hard and if Okoro does those two may drag a couple of others with them in the home straight...) Judd has Montano (just hang on ...

Re: Middle Distance events in Moscow

Okoro will medal this time round I think. Her hunger must be massive, her injury is long gone and sorted and she finally has the right coach according to Crammie. 1.56 and a bronze I think I'd class myself as an "Okoro fanboy" but I can't imagine this, even in my wildest dreams! Before th...

Re: Middle Distance events in Moscow

No, I agree with you Kermit, hence my comment. Savinova is favourite, but if I were picking a silver medalist it would be Montano. Apologies for the sweeping statement - I too would obviously pick Savinova for gold, though as she's "unseen" this year, who knows what form she's in? Likewis...

Re: Middle Distance events in Moscow

Aregawi has looked imperious, barring incident, can't see beyond her. In the women's 800 I feel an American could definitely take it - Montano does the Okoro strategy of going out like a scalded cat, but can actually finish. However, let's not forget that Savinova is class. If I were putting money ...

Re: Middle Distance events in Moscow

I agree that Montano/Martinez (or both) will medal in the women's 800m - also a great opportunity for a UK athlete to run the race of their life and squeak into the final. Is Jepkosgei competing this year? Haven't seen her on the circuit all year...

Re: Moscow Absentees

I was cheering SRR last year as I wanted her to win as I feel she would be a better repsentation as a Olympic Champion as she competes week in week out. ( I know then she gets injured) if TBO won then so be it, on the day she was the better athlete. Also I never like Felix being beaten and a good j...

Re: All star cast at London Anniversary Games

No one seems to have mentioned this so far (to my knowledge) so not sure if I'm just uninformed - I've never before seen Shana Cox execute a 400m like she did in London. At 300m she was slightly outclassed (understandably) by the elite. Yet then proceeded with a TBO-style charge down the home straig...

Re: BBC Athletics Presenters

From that, I assume he was trying to say that she'll make an excellent pacemaker one day - it might be foolish to run a 57 second opening lap, but once she's committed to it, she'll definitely hit the bell in 57 second exactly!?

I'm not sure that Brendan understood it any more than I did...

Must agree, though, that Brendan Foster on Maz was the comment of the weekend - even Cram seemed speechless in response! What did he say? I can't remember it verbatim, but - "Marilyn Okoro is sitting just off the pacemaker as they approach the bell. Some people are critical of Marilyn, but one...

Re: BBC Athletics Presenters

Colin has obviously been demoted because Gabby is so irritated by him. I was hoping that this was the case! He clearly annoyed her on Friday after the women's 4 x 100m relay, when he was enthusing about the squad's excellent performance (paraphrasing here, obviously) - Gaby: Considering the strengt...
