Re: I'm a bit down on Steve Cram at the moment

You have Cram not praising the currently dominate 800m runner of the past 3 years excuting another tactical masterpiece but he is so flat when Seymena who isn't a tactician and has been beaten by Mariya before makes a bad miss judgement. I thin commentators should always be upbeat and praise the wi...

Re: Record numbers apply for the London Marathon

Ah, fair enough! Though the point stands, to an extent - this year they are "allowing" 125,000 names into the ballot, last year they "allowed" 100,000 - so they control how many ballot entries can be made before they close it off, so its not necessarily straightforward to read in...

http://www.london24.com/sport/athletics_2_5504/125_000_apply_in_under_12_hours_for_2014_london_marathon_place_1_2174260 Looks like the Athletics popularity surge at the London Diamond league is no fluke, the post Olympic boom interest in the sport seems to be genuinely on the rise with 125,000 appl...

Re: VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON

I think the Mo issue was really because the general population never really had it well enough explained to them why he was doing it. Certainly, VLM doesn't need publicity (so they were not buying advertising), and its easy to argue that if Mo needs to have preparation for running a marathon (in ter...

Re: VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON

Could it be that the lack of British male marathoners is simply down to fear and stunted ambition? If you are a kid growing up in the UK at the moment and taking part in club athletics, what are you being told about the marathon - "you can't win it unless you are of East African heritage"....

Re: BT to Sponsor British Athletics?

For example, Samsung aren't in direct competition with and hoping to outsell Aviva... but they'll have been concerned that last year everyone went to the Aviva London Grand Prix as opposed to the Samsung Diamond League at Crystal Palace. I doubt Samsung care about the actual attendances at the meet...

Re: News, trivia, links...

Here's an interesting article about an unconventional American doctor who diagnoses various athletes with a hypothyroid condition, treats them with drugs to combat this, which reduces fatigue...and they've won 15 Olympic gold medals: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014241278873235506045784129131...

Re: Paula Radcliffe

Pity the Athletics Weekly article takes a pop at Paralympians. That quote about the paralympians is absolutely spot on, and is a perfectly used example of the cult of the uninformed media. The olympic stadium in London could have been filled several times over by the number of actually participatin...

Re: Paula Radcliffe

I for one would not see it as a blot on the copybook to run the CWG marathon in the knowledge that this was the final competitive outing for her; the World Cross would have been ideal in many ways, taking her back to her XC roots, no matter where she finished. Hey, if she gets back on her feet, I'll...

Do you have a source for that? The official policy states 13:03.00 (still). Or were you implying humour?

CWG - England Athletics quali standards

Much twitteration about this - 13:03 is the 5000m A qualifier, a time that only Dave Moorcroft and Mo have bettered! Does seem more than a little harsh, even though there is no change of any honours at all for a runner that can't break 13m in that Final.

Re: Goteborg 2013 Day 3

I agree with Exile. Where do you draw the line? Every athlete has to make individual choices about where their success might lie. Passing on taking part in the Euros is no different than passing on taking part in the County championships - is the Yorkshire County AA female high jump competition dimi...

Re: Which track race is the most unpredictable?

I would have said 800m generally (though I temporarily have to ignore Rudisha!) with the following logic:- - Sprints - its all about execution - no time to make a tactical mistake really, so if you are good at executing (and are fast), you should perform consistently - 5k+ - its all about still bein...

Re: New Orleans half...

I wonder whether what we saw at the weekend was that Mo is (and remains) a great race winner, who feels he can go with anyone at any pace (slow or fast) and beat them at the finish. He seems particularly less concerned with times, as otherwise he would have had to make a move early on in the race to...

Re: Oscar Pistorius

Nope ,your defence is weakly inflated with statisitics, if the DM suggests she was battered by a cricket bat, then shot, then this is all the evidence we need, why wait...fetch the rope, or shall we ascertain the motive first? I hate to jump into other people's arguments, but am I missing some sarc...

Or it wasn't and he didn't and she didn't, then case open?

I can't believe that the DM is being used as a source of "facts"

The only fact we have is that he shot her, as he admits that. Everything else is yet to be tested.

Re: Oscar Pistorius

My moral compass is the same as most of the other posters here (no matter what the ostensible "justification" is in terms of fear / burglary etc) - it's wrong (murder) to shoot someone without being in direct, tangible fear for your own life or the life of a close family member. So I'm not...

I am slightly taken aback by the complete lack of support for OP in this on this board. There's no-one seems to be willing to consider that, irrational as it might seem, he has just made a completely tragic error of judgement. Re: Ronaldo jumps higher than an NBA player

As I understand it, the most relevant measure would be the height of your centre of gravity – lifting that as high as possible is essentially what HJ is all about (the beauty of effective Fosbury flop technique is that you can clear the bar without needing your COG to reach bar height) Can you expa...

Re: Oscar Pistorius

If is was murder, Pistorius must have had a motive. This isn't Perry Mason you know. You don't need a "motive" to be guilty of murder, (though the police will often seek a motive in order to link a potential suspect to a crime), you need "intent" and sufficient presence of mind ...
