Re: England CWG Team

Your conclusions seem to owe a lot to beliefs in transparency, simplicity, athletes knowing what they have to do etc....all in the common cause of avoiding selectors judgements above all else. That is all about process rather than outcome. You say that like it's a bad thing ... Thanks for the reaso...

Re: Gotzis

Potted summary - Lake is currently better in the majority of events (some by a significant margin) than KJT was at a similar age (birthday timing excepted) Accurate insight. As KJT advanced through the age groups beating Jess Ennis' records and achievements so Morgan Lake has done in the last coupl...

Re: England CWG Team

The simple minded approach of who has the fastest SB completely fails to deal with the bigger picture. It doesn't look at competitive ability or at development. Straw man argument; that's not what the application of clear rules for qualification does. It selects the number of people who fulfill the...

Re: England CWG Team

The approach that Laps and Big Gut are pushing reminds me of the traditional scouts from this scene in 'Moneyball'; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF3GZwo0vGc Now I'm not saying GB athletics equates to the position the Oakland A's found themselves in or that trackstyles or myself are Brad Pitt (:))...

Re: England CWG Team

I swear this overblown presentation comprised the thoughts from various quarters of the selection persons each being asked to add their little bit of ... contribution, and added in by the end of a ghastly process in order to make everybody feel better who threw their tuppence worth into the pot. Re: England CWG Team

But why not? Assuming the point above that it is almost scientifically possible to "prove" one athlete is better than another, this would allow them to just pick "the best"? But you can't trust them to do that simple act (they are human and other factors mess with their heads; t...

Re: 2014 Multi Events

With regards morgan lake why am I the only one who thinks either is fine for her development' s Because depending upon which path she takes or is offered, she is not the only person affected by her/her team's decisions and those of the selectors. Just as a little background, a few selections for re...

Just catching up on the scores today. Great from Kat; awesome 200m. On track for a pb point score that puts her firmly in the top echelon of the sport. Good Shot Putt for her :). That's fantastic jumping from the lads; p.b.s for both (Ash's is a new outdoor best, his 7.67 being set indoors in the January international in Sheffield). Well done, really good starts. Nerves settled so enjoy the rest of the day. Edit; BTW ballsy jumping from Dos Santos. Chinin and Kravchenko drop...

Re: Gotzis

13.47 for Kat into a stiff headwind is a great result. It's within .03 of her PB that was only set last weekend which was a significant step forward in itself. The hard work she has put in is really paying off in this discipline. Schippers is a world class hurdler (as far as the women can be said to...

Re: UKA Poaching Again!!

I agree with trackstyles, hank's 'national development managers' structure is worth considering in more detail. The next level of detail might be to answer these questions; 1. If the brief for these managers is to develop the event, what should they be allowed to do (and not do) by interracting with...

Re: UKA Poaching Again!!

'There's got to be some view from the top which looks out for athletes who *may* be being under-served by their current coaching regime.' Yeah, that's the biggest problem we face; precociously talented youngsters not having anyone from the governing body taking an interest in them ...Just as soon as...

Re: 2014 Multi Events

what about Daniel Gardner? What about him? You seem to know it all already. As I've done in the past, I deliberately omitted much mention of athletes who have disappointed themselves as well as their supporters, feeling that it is slightly cruel to make note of those circumstances. Additionally, as...

Re: Morgan Lake

As far as the selectors are concerned, if she becomes an eligible candidate for Glasgow they will allow her and her coach to make that decision. Quite rightly. Agreed. Firstly I'm sure we can all agree that her performance in Florence was notable; not least because it was done in adverse weather co...
