Re: Outdoor Results 2013

This year has been a very low key affair compared to what was going on this time last year. Athletes seem to be making later starts. Only if you ignore all multi eventers, that is. See the separate thread on here for details of the fifth All-time performance by a British male athlete (Ashley Bryant...

Re: 2013 Multi-events

Yes but a shame he ended up just 15 points short of the 8000pts barrier which I also think is the world championship B standard. Also noted he was over 70m in the javelin for the first time :) It's hard to nitpick over 15 points, as significant as it might have been, when he has produced new PB's b...

Re: 2013 Multi-events

Fantastic new PB points total for Ashley Bryant in Italy. Puts him fifth on the All-time decathlon list.

Re: Athletes on the move

Not sure she would fancy training in Wigan, though! Care to elaborate? Nothing against Wigan, I've been there many times and probably will this Sunday, but given a choice between California (and a totally fresh start) and Wigan I think most would opt for sunnier climes! I wish her well. Many thanks...

Why does it need elaborating ? Who would ?

Re: 2013 Multi-events

It has been an interesting season indoors for the male multi-eventers. The UK championships were won by Michael Holden (5457 points) who was energised by his improved High Jump to 2.01m. He told me he was thrilled with that new PB after starting to work with Fuzz Ahmad. He was pushed by Martin Brock...

Re: Athletics placings table

I think generally a 4 year rolling average best recognised method to demonstrate progression. That's possible certainly. As part of a bank of indicators against which to assess things. But 'progression' isn't really the issue, is it? We can all see that '25' in 2012 is higher than '21' in 2008 (eve...

Not picking a fight at all, just making a point by holding up the mirror.

Re: Athletics placings table

This is not a debate any longer. Its turned into an academic war of semantics, fought between people determined to score points off each other. Steve makes a good point, one that a few of the readers here probably agree with. This thread stopped being of use in getting toward some greater understan...

Re: Will CVC really go now?...

A potential sponsor may well choose to adjudge the level of success/return that happened during Aviva's tenancy. That may be a value judgement but nevertheless be the ultimate decider on how much is put on the table. That's a very good point; a number of interested parties will be making the assess...

Re: Athletics placings table

It's simple AllanW I very much doubt it ... Yorkshire-best says the figrues are not good. No he doesn't; he said they are not a good enough return on the investment and for the alternatives foregone. I already agreed with the clear point you made earlier with regard to the bald numbers being higher...

Allan, Will you join the call for yorkshire-best to stop posting up soundbites without justifications, you seem to want anyone not posting up criticism to have to do that, so instead of supportign him and his soundbites as you normally do, how about a nice even handed request for his "unassail...

Re: Athletics placings table

It takes a particularly skewed view of the world to take a 17% uplift in points and say things are not improving. This may surprise you but I couldn't agree with this point more. There is plainly some improvement in performance between Beijing, Daegu and London. The question is not 'Was there an im...

Re: Athletics placings table

An 18% increase is surely positive, but it would be better to also place it context with the amount of money that was spent in each respective Olympic cycle. Does anyone have those figures? Unless anyone has better information I'd point you to the UKA website on the link below where the financial s...
