Re: 2014 Multi Events

Thanks for the interesting data, dpickup. A couple of thoughts follow. Looking solely at outdoor PB figures for multi-eventers would consistently give a lower impression of capability than more sophisticated measures. This is not so much the case with other disciplines, even very technical ones; get...

Re: New head of Field and Combined Events

More insulting remarks.... Your are not being 'Frank' in your remarks but rather plain offensive! Sailing close to the wind I suggest given the POA (1986) S5 Then I suggest you report your concerns to the police. The relevant section you threatened the commenter with is appended below for your full...

'15 World Champs, Beijing Qualifying scores, the qualifying period commencing 1january14 HEP 6075 DEC 8075 So will GBR have 3 reps in each event?? - & who?? On the Women's side Katarina is the most likely to qualify and compete (given all the normal caveats of lack of injury etc) with Jessica a...

Re: Zharnel Hughes

Jeremy, you do often make excellent points, but this is just a slightly incoherent diatribe and the points you're trying to make are obscured by a need to batter your opponent into submission with a wave of vitriol. Has anyone who professes themselves disgusted by the tone of a post on this forum e...

Re: Zharnel Hughes

Better still, Britain could always stop holding on to their colonies, like Anguilla and the Falklands, and grant them independence. Or you could, you know, actually ask them if they want it first then decide. Much less patronising to do it that way and you might come across some actual facts (rathe...

Re: World Indoor 7-9.03.14 - multi-events

I'll go along with you that Eaton's DEC WR is superior to his HEP WR, not withstanding how far ahead he is of all others, on the all-time list in the HEP. Agreed. However has he pushed the HEP WR up enough to say now that it is near to being as good as the DEC WR? I think not. Eaton only just misse...

Re: World Indoor 7-9.03.14 - multi-events

A couple of points about the Hep in Sopot; Good scoring by Eaton once again, a very worthy champion. His absence from the Dec this summer will provide a shot in the arm to many people looking to establish themselves on the international scene. He and Marra are probably doing a smart thing in trying ...

Re: 2014 Multi Events

Argh! Of course, my mistake. Never rush a post. Roger will go for Scotland, Ben and two others from the list that Geoff wrote will most likely qualify for Wales and John, Ashley and Richard will probably be the English qualifiers. As Geoff says, along with Peter Glass we'll have a majority of our to...

Re: Early 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold predictions

Men's Decathlon; too early to say (injuries and form are vital) but at this stage I can't choose between Damien Warner and John Lane. But I'm sure Ashley Bryant could have a lot to say about that :)

Re: 2014 Multi Events

What price England being forced to leave a decathlete out of the Commonwealth games team who has a better PB than 2010 bronze medallist Martin Brockman? That would show a serious improvement in depth. Regarding English qualifiers. The best hurdle for an athlete to clear as specified in the tortuous...

Ahem. Any chance of putting the Women's Heptathlon and the Men's Decathlon options in the first post on this thread, please? See? Thank you PJS, MysteryBrick, d pickup and jimbojames for the kind words. Much appreciated. The All-Time Top Ten performance list in Men’s Heptathlon has been rewritten by five new entries on the same weekend. In the International match against Fra...

Luckily for everyone else you don't control the rules of the Universe so what you think about it remains just your lonely individual opinion. It's perfectly acceptable to recognis...

Re: WADA Threatens To Expel Jamaica From Olympics Over Drug

it won't be long before they all break away to start another (possibly drug ridden) athletic circuit. I can't think of anything worse for track and field. I'm tempted to think this may be a Genghis Khan solution to the Gordion Knot problem of drug cheats and so would possible be the very best thing...

Re: WADA Threatens To Expel Jamaica From Olympics Over Drug

So, who do you propose pays for it? Weak point. 'We' don't need to propose any particular solution to this issue. The membership criteria of the various international organisations that organise the competitions that Jamaican athletes wish to compete in are clear. These criteria are satisfied to wh...

Re: Ennis return

Allan With the best will in the world, sometimes things are just out of our control. There are very, very few great athletes who never had to miss a major Champs at some point. I'd rather see Jess pull out, than endure watching her get beat by an inferior set of athletes. Sadly that happened to Dal...

The 'schedule' you refer to is not impossible nor did I imply that it was, but it certainly could be considered difficult. Jess herself managed 3 golds and a silver in the years from 2009 to 2012 at 2 World Champs, an Olympics and a Europeans I know. She and Tony have achieved a remarkable standard...
