Re: Will officials and coaches now have home drug test visit

I haven't posted on here for ages, but this thread tickled me. I had visions of some of the ...shall we say... more mature.. officials I see at competitions listing the myriad of lotions and potions they take for all the (age-related) health conditions they have. The drug testers would be standing i...

Re: Olympic tickets - money taken?

Of course all these people who applied for athletics tickets will be jumping up and down with excitement, ready to watch the Trials, the Regional Champs and all the League matches that will take place this season. Not. I find it appalling that 50% of tickets have been allocated for corporate purchas...

Goldie Sayers and Richard Buck are also out of the England team. John Beattie, Lee Emanuel, Kay Humberstone and Izzt Jeffs are drafted in. The team goes from strength to strength. Who are these people??? :? Izzy Jeffs is an U20 javelin thrower who has thrown 54.89 this season - the standard is 54m,...

The newly-formed UK Javelin Association would like to announce that Leeds Metropolitan University’s Carnegie Athletics Track has been chosen to hold its Inaugural Carnival Event on 18th and 19th September. The Launch Event will take place over 2 days, with the first day to include competitions for a...

Mike Allen has been fighting a series of injuries this year - I wouldn't think he would be fit for throwing anyway.

Part of the difficulty here is the question of time constraints. Most of us need a reliable income to live, and athletes are no different from the rest of us. Current employment thinking dictates that we should do not only our 9 - 5, but also 'go the extra mile' and therefore some people are working...

......then neither is she likely to be receiving any lottery funding, nor will she be calling on her UK body to provide any medical help.I doubt whether she'll be asking UKA to pay for her baby scans! So whats the problem? So if she isnt getting any funding or medical help, why is she still listed?...

Is it me, or are we losing sight of the ball by concentrating arguments on Paula? Apparently she receives no funding. If she has access to medical back up when she is training and competing, whats wrong with that? She is one of very few British athletes at present who can look towards London with t...

I see no reason why Paula cannot afford to pay for private health funding herself. Additionally, while she's pregnant how do they decide what injuries are covered by funding and what is pregnancy related? Pregnant athletes cannot be in competition training, so funding which should be awarded to comp...

She improved her pb by one other throw - over 58m, but I can't remember the exact distance. Izzy Jeffs also threw out a massive 54m+ throw. I think the ladies are showing up the men a little this year :)

Bedford International Games - Laura Whittingham smashed her own pb today to go over the magic 60m mark with 60.68m. Well done to her, and also to Esa Utriainen who has worked with Laura this year to enable her to increase her pb by a massive 8m this year - and there is obviously much more to come!

Just got back from 2 days at CP, where I got absolutely soaked on Friday night, but managed to stay dry today. Question: - why 6 rounds in the jumps and only 4 in the throws? Nobody here mentioned the men's javelin comp, probably because so few throws were shown by the BBC. It was a brilliant comp, ...

What is the attitude of the funders to injury? How long is an injury allowed to last? Can she still be seen as a medal possibility at World '11 OLY '12? I don't know. However there are quite a few athletes on Podium funding who seem to have spent the season injured. Should they retain funding if th...

I think that, putting it simply, the technique will never be perfected as there are far too many variables. Most javelin coaches (and throwers) will tell you that you get something somewhere near right... and then something else goes wrong! But maybe that's why we do it..........

You also have to remember that this is only Merv's second competition this season, as he has had a series of annoying injuries that prevented him training fully for the early part of the season.

One man to watch out for is Ian Swift in the Triple Jump. http://www.athletics-uk.net/england/england_entries2e.asp If memory serves, he is the junior who had the pioneering bionics op last year, and he is in stunning form this year. I'm sure he will be knocking on 90m very soon. 90m is indeed impr...

Totally agree, jimbo. Lsabre, if you rise to it you will always give them a reason to comeback, so just move on.

And, moving on, that was a good result for Sunette in the javelin! She's going to be a big challenge to Goldie at the Commonwealths!

Nothing from the Northerns yet. It wasn't a particularly good turn out. Definately lack lustre in my opinion. nothing of note happened at the Southerns either. Actually you're wrong.
