Re: SHOULD KJT GIVE UP MULTIEVENTS FOR THE JUMPS

I think the answer to the original question posed has been made clear. K J-T should stick to the heptathlon. Will she become better than Jess ? A monumental task for anyone to achieve. Jess is probably the second best heptathlete of all-time (behind Kluft in my opinion), and but for the pregnancy w...

Re: Jessica Ennis-Hill calls for more female coaches in athl

http://www.european-athletics.org/athletics-community/women-leaders/winners/news/article=mirjana-stojanovic-passion-for-coaching.html This obviously isn't a British example, but it shows that it happens. I would say that while outright verbal bullying of women coaches almost certainly doesn't go on,...

Re: Jessica Ennis-Hill calls for more female coaches in athl

If you look on TPOT at the ranking lists, there are a few female coaches coaching athletes ranked in the top 50 in each event, but given that women make up roughly 50% of the population, the numbers are pitifully low. Carol Jackson would be a good example of a female coach working at a high level, a...

Re: SHOULD KJT GIVE UP MULTIEVENTS FOR THE JUMPS

Pure guesswork, but I'd guess from athletics and athletics-related activities alone (kit sponsorship etc) that Val earns more. Klishina is a world class jumper at her best. but field events in general aren't where the cash is and even though the SP is often part of the pre-programme at DL meets, so ...

Re: SHOULD KJT GIVE UP MULTIEVENTS FOR THE JUMPS

As a society we are so used to judging women by their appearance more than their achievements that often we doing even realise what we're doing. I wonder who makes more money, Valerie Adams or Darya KLishina??? Flumpy - Is that a genuine question? I've absolutely no idea what the answer is! Clearly...

Re: SHOULD KJT GIVE UP MULTIEVENTS FOR THE JUMPS

There is indeed a big difference between being attractive and being feminine, just as there's a big difference between biological sex and gender. But I think the point that is being made is that norms of femininity are considered by advertisers to be the most attractive.

Re: Sopot Team

I agree with that philosophy, Geoff, but, as I imagine you know, the "medals and finals only" approach is a UK Sport dictat. UKA should, in my view, be taking a stand and arguing for full teams. It would be the right thing to do for a whole host of reasons. There's nothing I hate more in t...

Re: Sopot Team

My understanding is that often athletes will be told what they need to do in order to get selected, but that this is often not a formal process and not everyone is treated the same. There have also been occasions when athletes have been told "you need to do X", but even that hasn't been en...

Re: Indoor season 2013/14

It would probably make most posters happy if you take you jingoistic xenophobia and stereotyping off the forum altogether. (Or is my opinion as a female not worth anything)? Seconded. The problem with “I’m entitled to my opinion” is that, all too often, it’s used to shelter beliefs that should have...

Re: DQ changed

I agree with you about the ranting and raving - a coach putting across a strongly biased view need not abuse anybody, but I would expect them to "spin" the situation as best as they could in favour of their athletes. I would draw the line at blatantly lying about a circumstance (hopefully...

Re: DQ changed

Couldn't disagree more with this. I want my coach to act in the best interests of the sport at all times. What is in the sport's best interests is in my best interests too. I am not an official, but I have been, for some reason, on a Jury of Appeal at a major meeting as a "lay" member. An ...

Re: Public Warning for Veronica Campbell-Brown

Sidelined - in the sense that VCB has been found guilty of a doping offence. Has she ? My understanding was that she has be exonerated ? Do any of us know what actually happened? Genuine question. I don't. I can't be critical of a situation or outraged about something that I know nothing about. Did...

Re: Public Warning for Veronica Campbell-Brown

Perhaps a better example. Had Callum Priestly been given a reduced ban, rather than the full two years, because it was shown he'd ingested meat unwittingly and therefore had no intention to cheat, would it have been a problem?

Re: Public Warning for Veronica Campbell-Brown

Sidelined - in the sense that VCB has been found guilty of a doping offence and CO was also found guilty of a doping offence, there is a comparison. We know that the offences are very different, but I mention her to point out that those guilty of breaking the anti-doping rules at any given time are ...

Re: Public Warning for Veronica Campbell-Brown

Mump - are you reading something different from me? I've read that she is cleared to compete precisely because she was found not to have intended to cheat. No one disputes that she had the drug in her system, but she was found not to have intended to cheat by the JADCO, which was upheld by CAS. Sur...

Re: Public Warning for Veronica Campbell-Brown

Ashton - Why is this terrible news?

Do you know better than the CAS? What do you know that they don't? Surely it's great news when all of the evidence is examined and an athlete is found not to have cheated?

We want cheats caught. We don't want great athletes banned for no good reason

Re: Rutherford and sledging ;-)

Despite having contributed to the thread earlier on, I tend to agree that it's become dreary. However, rather than post to that effect, why not just ignore it and leave it to those who don't find it dreary to continue as they see fit? I always find it odd when people try to police what others post a...

Re: Sopot Team

Further to my last post - Emily Diamond and Nicola Sanders also questioned the absence of Massey on twitter, to which Luke Lennon-Ford (who himself probably feels hard done by), responded with this: "Luke lennon ford ‏@Lukey400m 3h @EmilyDiamond11 I'm telling you but this is what happen when se...

Re: Sopot Team

Did Kelly Massey ask not to be considered? Her twitter account suggests that she felt in good shape only a couple of days ago and there is a cryptic "smile" comment. Scandalous if she has indeed been overlooked in favour of athletes ranked below her.

Re: Sopot Team

I can see medal potential in M60, M400, M1500, M60H, MPV, M4x400m, W60, W800, WPV, WLJ and W4x400m, but very few likely medalists (relays, Bleasdale), so I think 5 medals would be an excellent outcome.

Re: Rutherford and sledging ;-)

Agree that GR is probably not making a great deal compared to Ennis and Mo and even some less celebrated former champions. He "appears" to be piqued by this, when I think the general point that is being made is that he is unlikely to starve and should be able to make a decent living that d...

Re: Rutherford and sledging ;-)

Too much talk from Greg for me. If he wants to turn his hand to the relays or winter sports then get on and do it but can't help feeling he's saying anything to get his name in the media. He struggles to stay fit for his own event let alone anything else. I'm sure Greg saw pound signs the moment he...

Re: 2014 Multi Events

I think the 400 hurdles is always a good second option for a lot of multi-eventers. To be a good decathlete or heptathlete you have to be a competent sprint hurdler and possess both speed and stamina. I've long thought that Jess Ennis could be just as good over the long hurdles as she is a sprint h...
