Jerry Odlin ex-international distance runner in his days with Shaftesbury H. Remember him from British League days, all round good guy..

Re: "Mo Farah to join the 'Plastic Brits' avoids paying UK t

On reflection, I think that we may have been a bit harsh to coaches_tenevents. He has probably been too busy fine tuning his major medal winning decathletes to focus on rational comments about our number one UK athlete (by a long way).

You seem to have some deep and disturbing issues. Are you ok, or can I refer you to someone who may be able to help?

Quite right Sidelined, I live in Malaysia and am subject to Malaysian taxes, luckily for me it works out well. Anybody else has the same opportunity that I am fortunate enough to have.

Re: "Mo Farah to join the 'Plastic Brits' avoids paying UK t

I'm certainly with Mump Boy here. I would venture to suggest that any aid (development grant, or whatever you want to call it) has been repaid by Mo's exceptional exploits many times over.
If anyone can give me a better use of funds, pray tell!

Re: "Mo Farah to join the 'Plastic Brits' avoids paying UK t

I'm Scottish and if I open the Daily Record on any given day I pretty well know what I'm going to get. It's not exactly for academics but thrives on sensation and football, in the main. Accept it's banner headlines for what it is and don't take it too seriously. On the subject of Mo? Love his runnin...

Re: The state of British Sprinting

SteveK26, I remember Alf Mignot as well, what a star! With has trousers up somewhere near his nipples, held up by braces. At British League matches he used to wind all us Scots up by simply calling each of us Jock. One incident stands out, he approached our 100m sprinter who just happened to be the ...

Todd Bennett R.I.P.

Very sad to hear that Todd lost his battle against cancer. A great, genuine, straight up bloke with the heart of a lion. A large gap has appeared in UK Athletics with his involvement both as an athlete and a highly successful coach. A privilege to have met Todd many times over the years. Rest in pea...

Re: Delano Williams - Now representing Britain at world cham

Jeremy 1,
Englanders? What about us haggis heads, the Welshies and the Paddies? As far as I am concerned, if you are good enough then you are most welcome. It's been going on for decades in most sports.

Re: European Team Championships Gateshead 2013

I can actually see where Athfan is coming from and certainly sympathize. Constructive criticism I can accept, but some of the purile nonsense that is going around is really tedious. I'm only looking towards athletics and can find the meaning of life through my own endeavors. I really hope I'm not th...

Re: Belgrave men bow out of British Athletic League

I remember competing in the British League throughout the '80s. Competition was keen and 'big' names regularly showed up to perform. Time moves on and things have to change over the years. However, what worries me is that I cannot see how it is changing for the better. I get regular updates from old...

George Gandy

Just picked up from a Doug Gillon article that George Gandy is one other coach 'getting the flick' from the powers that be. It does seem that some faces do not fit the new regime. KInda reminds me of last century in parts of the world when people were replaced, cities were renamed and proven success...

Re: Uk coach of the year made redundant !!!!

I'm confused, in my simplistic world you reward excellence. Getting an athlete to a major games is not easy, getting an athlete to Olympic medal is about as good as it gets. Sheffield works for JE, why change? TM works for JE, why change? What in god's name have these 'decision' makers done to move ...

Old pals

During the Olympics I had many old pals (mixture of internationals, Olympians, medallists and champions) they were all consistent in one thing: Great, Great, Great! These are hard nosed 'been there done it' guys and they loved it. Methinks London did a good job, and I am a cynical Glaswegian. If any...

Re: Cost of Plastic Brits

The recruitment of sports people, to both parties mutual benefit, is a worldwide business. It thrives in almost all sports and on all continents. To ignore it and embrace the Corinthian spirit is not going to help any country. Things change: cars, music, technology etc etc. I hate to say it but I be...
