Re: RIP Pietro Mennea

Ha ha Ashton, irony I presume?! Mennea acknowledged steroid use years ago.

Re: The Ones That Got Away

This thread is an absolute disgrace to sport, the internet, and human-beings. Yes, to think that there are some people foul enough to speculate about past athletes actually makes me feel better about myself, but nonetheless I am still filled with disgust to read the utter nonsense dribbling out of ...

Re: Helsinki 2012 European Athletics Championships

Yes, and while I know its tougher running on your own, wasn't her split 'only' 57.6? It wasn't even that fast! I really like Okoro but hated the EI mess up a few years ago and she also said that she didn't care what people thought, she loved front running and would do it her way. She is neitherv fas...

Re: Missing athletes?

Becky L was great, I am sorry to hear she has retired.

One thing though - extraordinary to see how fortunes have changed in justa few years - our female athlete of the year in 2006 (Becky) only won a bronze at the Euros!

Re: General results thread - June 2012

I like Twell but I don't see it happening this year. I see on Twitter she is thinking of doing the 5k in London (if Twitter can be believed ) - just shows how weak that QT is. 15:15/15:25 is stupidly easy for any distance runner of worth to do and its a shame that it may encourage people to qualify ...

Re: London 2012 on the BBC

Not C Jackson, pleeeeease!
And hopefully plenty of action rather than ridiculous replays (never even in full), flash excerpts, boring analysis and hip hop ludicrous music.....

Re: highs & lows - an assessment of Istanbul 2012

Some great points above, guys. I too wonder about Jodie W - she hasn't looked great this year at all, and she was disappointing in Istanbul. I also found Tiff Porter disappointing - when she ran 7.93 earlier this year I expected she would knock a tenth from that and were it a higher calibre entry fi...

Re: Sophie Hitchon 70.40m NR

No disrespect to Sophie (big kudos to her and I hope she has an amazing future), but this is a very weak national record. It has only increased by less than a metre and a half in several years, and that record itself has not a finalist level performance. Several women are sailing over 72m now, let a...

Re: British Team for Istanbul

We really are looking at a devalued Euro Champs this year. It might be good for the sport itself by having them every two years, but most Euro champs this year will have little of the status enjoyed by previous edition winners......

Re: multi-events

Looming at Sotherton's PBs, I do think she threw away a fantastic chance in Beijing. If she had ever got it together, she could have scored 6700+. Of course she never has brought it all together - but that was her real chance of glory, IMHO.

Re: UKA ANNOUNCES 2011/12 WCPP ATHLETES

Lancashire is injured. Richard Kilty has been venting his fury on Twitter, saying 6 or 7 athletes ranked behind him over 200m are funded and he is not. Although I feel sorry for him, he has the curse of a La Chaux des Fonds performance......20.53 there, and his next best time (with a wind recording)...

C Malcolm/C Lewis

Christian Malcolm says in today's AW he has raced Carl Lewis. When would that have happened? I thought that Lewis probably retired before Malcolm's international career begun?

Re: Day 8

Sanders should not have been on the team - she is in on past form and we fell waaaaaaaaay back on her leg. I think I'd have run Meadows or eve Child - they wouldn't have got us up to Russia but they would have run better than NS.

Re: Day 7

OB - have looked everywhere for the footage and it seems that none exists! Checked 1984 ATFS annual as well and there is no info on the splits, alas. I do think that 28 is pretty normal to do the first 200 though, tbh - the real damage is done in the second 200. Yes, hopefully Jenny will fix his for...

Re: Day 7

Oldboy that is nowhere near world record pace?! I think Kratochvilova did 56.3/57.0. I am sorry for Jenny - she didn't run badly at all, but she lacked that bit of speed at the end to hold Vessey off? Irrespective, everyone is racing for silver behind Caster, and Savinova looks pretty good too. Mump...

Noble sentiments from the posters above - but why don't you the people who have lost their homes and businesses and worse, the families of the people who were murdered that you don't feel comfortable with those terms? Horrible chav. Olympics ambassador? She should have been vetted. You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

The nearest she should get to 2012 is cleaning filthy portaloos in Olympic park.

She came 14th at the last WC and has improved by over 150 points since then she could very well come top 10. how many other UK athletes can say they came top 14 ??
