Re: BRITISH WOMEN 800MTS

Whilst I would love to agree, I do not see any of the current crop approaching 1:56.2.....Muir need to start being (as Kelly was) a regular 1:58 athlete before that is even remotely considered.

Re: Luke Cutts New UK record 5.83

Whilke I don't necessarily agree with Jeremy's views (a lot of the time!) - his posts are frequent, ofetn entertaining and spark a lot of debate. Long live the Jeremy ;)

Re: Jeanette Kwakye

LT's 11.11 is even more offensive than the much maligned MD 'record' of 11.05. She didn't even make the final of the Europeans that year. And we have teh nerve to criticise the ratification of 10.49! I note that the Euros Selection Policy now expressly excludes sprint performances from La Chaux de F...

Re: Greatest ever female competitions/performances

No, Jeremy, love. My point is in fact that you need a solid winter base of hard training behind you in order to be in shape. You don't suddenly decide in January that you'll become a world beater later that summer. It takes months and months of prep and work - likely assisted by drugs in her case (a...

Re: Greatest ever female competitions/performances

Re 1:53.28 - I don't think JMC would ever have been close - I thought Mutola might be closer (but never broke 1:55, I think). The 1:54.01 was incredible by PJ, but I very much doubt she was 18 - or possibly not even clean? I don't know.

Re: Greatest ever female competitions/performances

Jeremy - Flo Jo never failed a test or was never viewed suspiciously at the time Oh yes she was. You don't improve in a year from being around about the 11.00/22.00 area to the 10.60 (I'll ignore the 'windy' 10.49)/21.34 without people having suspicions. Never failed a test; what tests ? random out...

Re: GB Female Sprinters & Relay

GB Female Sprinters & Relay

Phillip had a decent 2013 - will she and Williams join the relay squad? Can Nelson translate some of her junior talent into senior ability? Will anyone get close to the 'true' UK record of 11.10....or better still, wipe the spurious 11.05 from the books? I hear that Kwakye has retired, unfortunately...

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

There are dozens of UK athletes that have the potential to do really well (Bleasdale) - and others that produce exceptional performances every now and then (Pavey, for example)...Ellington is in neither category. It's an achievement if he breaks 20.5. Times have moved on - and I hate the cockiness h...

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

Marilyn is likelable but when has she ever shown she could be a world beater?!!!!! Not even close.... James Ellington is very lucky. A very, very mediocre athlete who will never threaten anyone of note. I am not sure why people like him bother persisting, frankly. The talent is just not - and never ...

Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

The CG are unlikely to feature highly on Nike or Salazar's agenda. More is the pity, when ludicrous decisions like half of a London marathon do (I have yet to find a cerdible explanation for that - $$$ apart - even Radcliffe remains bemused).

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

Delano Williams on full funding?! What on earth has he done to merit that?! Jesus, we had to pay quite a price for this major talent, haven't we?!!! First he gets selected for Moscow and now this? I hope it all pays off - a big investment.

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

Bev, I agree re full time throwers - though in the case of Sayers, she is not a potential medallist and never has been - a good performance in Beijjing (5 years ago) but nothing remotely close otherwise in a very long career at majors. Phillips is taking a break, if he is to be believed - so therefo...

Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

Now that the season is over, who do folk think will make the grade for next year....and who is in danger? I would say that the most nervous athletes are: Y Aldama L Dobriskey P Idowu J Meadows L Okoye (presumably withdrawn from the list anyway) G Sayers C Tomlinson A Turner Many of these are in the ...

The male WRs of the 80s & 1990 are event record athlete date est when broken dt 74 08 Schult GER 06 06 86 16 - his 2nd best throw was 70.46, so a 'Beamon effort' in this event? Otherwise next ranked in this event there has been 73.88 Alekna ‘00, 73.38 Kanter '06, 72.02 Kanter '07 trickstat Than...

Re: Shara Proctor DIAMOND League Champion

Diamond League winner? So what? I remember Doug Padilla won the overall Grand Prix in 1985 without winning a single race. Means nothing. I think Proctor is a great jumper but Moscow was a shambles, as was London. To go in as lead qualifier and bomb on both occasions is very poor indeed. All the more...

Luke Cutts should have been given a chance - Steve Lewis seems to have a lock on that PV spot, irrespective of how he performs (which is often poorly).

Yes, and while I know its tougher running on your own, wasn't her split 'only' 57.6? It wasn't even that fast! Becky L was great, I am sorry to hear she has retired.

One thing though - extraordinary to see how fortunes have changed in justa few years - our female athlete of the year in 2006 (Becky) only won a bronze at the Euros!

Re: General results thread - June 2012

I like Twell but I don't see it happening this year. I see on Twitter she is thinking of doing the 5k in London (if Twitter can be believed ) - just shows how weak that QT is. 15:15/15:25 is stupidly easy for any distance runner of worth to do and its a shame that it may encourage people to qualify ...

Re: highs & lows - an assessment of Istanbul 2012

Some great points above, guys. I too wonder about Jodie W - she hasn't looked great this year at all, and she was disappointing in Istanbul. I also found Tiff Porter disappointing - when she ran 7.93 earlier this year I expected she would knock a tenth from that and were it a higher calibre entry fi...
