Re: Tyson Gay banned for one year

If he was taking steroids - he would notice it straight away - believe me - as the side effects are obvious and hard to deny or ignore! Look it up and see if you could ignore any of those side effects

Re: Tyson Gay banned for one year

I am not having a go at anyone - but it really doe annoy me when people start off conversations like - I really like Gay ... so all is forgiven - when the fact is he has cheated on purpose for one reason only fame and fortune which he has and non of this would have been possible if he had not cheate...

Re: Outdoor season 2014

HI All Been away from the boards for a while but managed to drag out my password to respond to the Benji lad who I have received a few e-mails and texts about. I think I said couple of years ago that he was the real deal and was helping him and his dad before he went to university. The reason why he...

Re: New Track at Fox Hollies in Birmingham

I was a Lufbra this weekend and had a good chat with my old mate Mike Mcneil who I have known since about 11 when he was a teacher In Ipwich and a nicer bloke you could not meet. He seems to have the same opinion as the rest of us in how to take the event forward. However, I am not sure what is happ...

Re: New Track at Fox Hollies in Birmingham

I am sure the investment is well appreciated and it welcome. I would like to point out to those with shorter memories and a point I made at Loughborough the other day. Pre lottery - and when I was starting out - we had little if any facilities like loughbrough. The sport has had lots of money inject...

Re: New Track at Fox Hollies in Birmingham

Just playing th e devil's advocate here - but Walsall has a similar track but has a throws area in the vicinity. I would ask if that has had any impact on the local community or the state of Walsall schools abilities. I hear not but will be glad to hear any different. I think the point is you need c...

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

Some harsh critics on this thread!!!! Im with exile - why are we putting the bar so high for funding - all those who criticise uka for this are even worse than UKA. Not funding just because a few men decide people like James Ellington will never win a medal is a little harsh and Marlyn Okoro is a bi...

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

We can be critical of negative comment s that Jeremy for example may produce but the fact is that the facts in many cases are on his side. Many of our girls and boys want funding and are satisfied on funding when the truth is that with better facilities, financial rewards, medical back etc, you woul...

Re: Athletes on the move

`HI Jimbo I am not and have never said athletes should not make their own choices as it is their right- be it right or wrong - I am supporting the fact that there should be someway coaches should be rewarded and contracts at club level maybe a good start and a model that makes clubs far more viable....

Re: Athletes on the move

In support of 10events - he has obviously worked hard nd given much of his time and knowledge to get these athletes to a high level and obviously has ambition which has led to these athletes success and then they are enticed to the BA way due to what ever factors - finance being a main one. I have e...

Re: Athletes on the move

HI Rsub10 I am not intending to make this some sort of précis of my CV but I did the BAWLA awards back in the 1980's and numerous courses through BAAB , BAF and did my CSCS in the late 90's, the SAQ stuff when it first came out and have gone on other courses including the UKSCC one and seen how S an...

Re: Athletes on the move

HI 2 dodgy - thanks for you response. I am not fuelled by anger or bitterness - just pointing out what my experience has been and ten events sounds like he is a victim as well. I still coach but was making th point that the expectation is that we all do this for free. The cricket and rugby is not at...

Re: Athletes on the move

I think what Matt is saying maybe not intending to - is that as coaches we are worthless in the sport. I can coach tennis and charge £25 an hour and I have coached at the local rugby club and paid £50- 100 quid a night and gpt £200 a game plus bonus' and company cars etc and this is at London level ...

Re: Athletes on the move

Re ten events - Regarding the Chinese whispers, actually that was the most damming aspect. Only the other day an athlete I coach told me in jest of the things they had heard from various 'dick heads' as they called them who were warning them about a multitude of sins I had been convicted of e.g. cal...

Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

How do you know - where was that written? I am sure that does not apply to Mo or Jess for example. Also- the PD is Black and there is no head of coaching at present. So Black is a physio by trade who has been given the performance role and now decides when the top athletes compete? That is a heck of...

Re: Athletes on the move

It is easy to understand why athletes would be drawn to Loughbrough which does have a world class facility and is understandable that athletes would sing it's virtues as they have come out of it financially better off. This has worked for someone - cannot think of anyone off the top of my head (Dass...

Re: Athletes on the move

Regarding Kermit's comment about the athlete claiming to know more than the coach ... if this was true and I am not suggesting it is or not ... but his is quite common. I know many throwers when they get to senior level ask for technical advice and do their own s and c as I believe linford did. Spri...

Re: Athletes on the move

I don't know the ins and outs of Gemillies reasons - but I am sure they are done with a lot of thought. From the outset it does look like he has made a NGB decision and who knows if there was funding and favours involved. It is a shame that MA good work has not been rewarded. If it aint broke then w...

Re: Ben Johnson's starting technique

Johnson was very powerful and the fact that he could get to 60 before anyone else is evidence of this power, the first 20-30 more so. When you see the likes of Bolt coming good on the latter part of the race is not because he is accelerating but because he is slowing down less or in his case - maint...

Re: MAHON TO LEAVE ENDURANCE POST

I guess maybe I meant the urge to see it through and if I was offered a job in France and the a better one was offered back home --- I would probably jump at it - but I would also consider that the French had the belief in me so I would want to repay them with my service and loyalty - but that is ho...

Re: MAHON TO LEAVE ENDURANCE POST

Seems like he left the national post to work for a club in the US to make the Unicorns a world beating team. Dare I suggest if you are going to employ foreign coaches - there is little if any connection or loyalty and they are no better than a hired gun/mercenary. I think this is where the current e...

Re: Election of Council Member - Coach Rep

You can google them - one seems to be involved with Eng athletics as an official - but if you look on P10 neither have athletes attached to them -not that p10 is the be all end all of information. I think many do not apply for such roles as those with ambition to change things suspect that these rol...

Re: MAHON TO LEAVE ENDURANCE POST

Maybe it requires some creative thinking and separate the sport into endurance - jumps throws and sprints and let a team of people have a go at sorting their part out and if they don't after say 3 years - get new one's in! The throws has few employees for example in terms of event groups. We now who...

Re: The Lighter side of the World Championships

I was going to say - If this is the lighter side of the WC, can't wait to read the dark side!!!!!! Lots of emotions going around but stepping back and looking at the facts - -1073-2008 few if any medals -suddenly they are producing -lots of athletes failed drug tests - IAAF or whoever complain about...

Re: World Athletics Centre, Arizona

Looking at that list - and depending on who turns up - no threat like last time where the entry list was decimated and a frankly, some medals were being given away! You cannot see much past the Kenyans in the mid distance, Carys - with a full field - will find it tough to medal with a low 60's throw...

I am not involved so I cannot pretend to know what Scott Simpson is thinking about. Re: Worst ever field results at a major championship

You could argue anything depending on how deep you want to go into the rankings However, top 30-50 are where we should be looking at for potential world class performances as they are usually what makes top 8 on the day in most major events. top 80-100 is not really at the races in world terms.

Re: World Athletics Centre, Arizona

That is not what it says - it says their coaches would com over here and do a series of presentations for coaches and athletes (Commonwealth hopefuls) and welsh athletes will go over there. China did it with Michael Johnson's company so it is nothing new. I am not saying it is a bad idea - I am sure...
